Morrissey – Glamorous Glue Lyrics 14 years ago
Reads to me as the erosion of identity in the city. We numb our agnst with alchohol (the jar) and become progressively shallow and bitter. Then rather than taking responsibility we passively make scapegoats to compensate for our short comings (i.e. Conservatives) as we throw in the towel. 'I used to dream and I used to vow, I wouldn't dream of it now' a man giving up on his vision of life, 'We look to Los Angeles for the language we use, London is dead' we find superficial redemptive narratives in mass media. We're fused in glamour and not substance.

Los Campesinos! – We Are All Accelerated Readers Lyrics 15 years ago
It reads to me as saying structure exists in art (i.e Breakfast Club characters, Toni Braxton songs) and not in reality. The accelerated reader naively looks to structure to better make connections with the outside world. In doings so builds a wall for themselves. S/he stays home, reads and doesn't bother confronting others (doesn't fall in love).

The Black Eyed Peas – Boom Boom Pow Lyrics 15 years ago
I read this song as basically the band mocking their audience by pandering to undeveloped appetites in giving them contrived unspired utterly disposable trite dressed up with crude pop beats to make it able to swallow.

Mindless Self Indulgence – Tom Sawyer (Rush cover) Lyrics 15 years ago
Unbelievable cover! Not simply a cover for the sake of a cover. I remember first hearing this on their Alienating our Audience tour and a friend turning to me saying 'I think this is a Rush Cover' followed by confused looks.

Rush is pretty much the staple progressive rock and owes their inspiration to Ayn Rand (Neil Peart is a Randian). Rush treated music as something to be perfected that is becoming increasingly complicated coming out of the classic rock of the seventies (they wouldn't 'hate Jimmy Page' even ironically). Rush is technically sound apollonian objectivists.

MSI on the other hand are foundationless. Their inspiration is ruled by creativity in building and cultivating their own sound and scene, MSI certainly didn't seek to perfect on anyone before them. Their schizophrenic influences mirror the attention deficit disorder of our culture. Good luck finding a stanza that is literally coherent in MSI. Instead MSI uses absurdity, irony and humor which lends to dionysian discord.

Basically Rush is to modernism as MSI is to postmodernism.
