The Decemberists – Raincoat Song Lyrics 15 years ago
I personally love this song (then again, I love all Decemberists song... including Dracula's Daughter). It's a sweet, delicate metaphor for all those people who are trying to protect themselves from harm but, eventually can't. And they see their lives passing before their eyes, missing so many beautiful moments because they are too afraid of revealing themselves and opening their heart. Such an intimate song.

Placebo – Happy You're Gone Lyrics 15 years ago
that is precisely what happens when you feel empty and lonely when a relationship is over. no matter how much better off you could be your life, in a way or another, won't be the same. but it can be better. much better so you could be happy the other's gone. and the mistrust, the cheating, how many times is a legitimate question, but its there to stay until you'll be finally happy its over.

The Decemberists – A Record Year for Rainfall Lyrics 15 years ago
Amazing indeed. OhNo has definitely analyzed this song in the best way possible. But let me add something. I am going through the end of relationship and this song speaks directly to my heart. From my perspective, it speaks about how everything ended and there is a lot of regret surrounding the ending of their relationship. One decided to end it, and Colin tries to understand why it is ending, and what's the meaning of all this. It's like there's much pain and sorrow that had no reason to be. Asking the other person if it looked so gray could mean that he's trying to figure out what went wrong, and why the other one can't see the good rather than the bad. And of course, he's seeing it all slip away, for no particular reason but incomprehension and different views on how things went. In Colin's eyes, they weren't bad as much as in the other one's eyes. And that is EXACTLY how you can feel at the end of a relationship.
