i think its just a clever song about being pissed off when a girl has dumped him cos it starts full of cliches So many fish there in the sea/I wanted you, you wanted me/That's just a phase/moving too fast then he 'got a different view' and the song becomes bitter 'I'm not you friend, I never was' thats like a bitter reply when someone breaks up and says, 'can we still be friends?' and then the 'she wanted him, he wanted me' line... expressing his confusion and slight amusment at the situation beacuse he was dumped by some girl he didnt even really like for a guy who likes guys???? hmmmm |

this song is about being young in general to me. 'i didn't take no shortcuts...' that verse is about everyhting he's pissed about at home, like he talks about his mama and sister, and the trenchcoat line i think is his mother telling him what to wear, like a trenchcoat is a mothers favorite cos its smart but not considered cool by the speaker so a young person wouldn't wear it. 'i should've worked much harder...' that verse is about him having regrets about school and hating his job. then the repeated choruses are about a relationship he had when he was young which he sees as significant, and obviously they're about sex aswel like nearly all strokes songs this is by far my fave of allllll their songs it is friggin amazing. |
