I took this song pretty literally, which is how I think it was meant, the lines: 'lover, lover on the fence' Suggest someone (an angry lover, perhaps) on the fence as to take aggressive action or not. "bat your eyes, ball a fist and swing swing, swing, swing, swing, swing" Literally means, Stop being on the goddamn fence and get angry, get passionate, Ball a fist and fucking swing! THIS is backed up by the following; "lover, lover now tell me this, passion over consequence, when did the latter take the lead? just swing, just, swing, swing, swing, swing, swing." Passion is in the swing of the fist, the final emotion without thought - giving someone what the truly deserve. And SINCE WHEN did people start caring more about the consequences of hitting someone in the face, than the truly deserving (if thats the case) passion that comes behind it. A bitter lover, a heart done wrong. Just swing. |

I believe this song is from the point of view of a father-to-be whose partner/ wife couldn't handle the thought of motherhood, or suffered pre-natal depression leading her to kill herself - "And I could tell it was over From the curtains that hung from your neck" The end of the song is somewhat hopeful, perhaps although the wife is dead, the paramedics saved the baby? "To pray for what I thought were angels Ended up being ambulances And the Lord showed me dreams of my daughter She was crying inside your stomach And I felt love again" im not sure, there could be so many meanings to this song, either way, it's beautiful. |
