Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Where the Wild Roses Grow (feat. Kylie Minogue) Lyrics 15 years ago
The "wild rose" bit isn't as complex as it seems; this is Cave's interpretation of the classic murder ballad "Down in the Willow Garden":

I drew my sabre through her
It was a bloody knife
I threw her in the river
It was a dreadful sight
My father often told me
That money would set me free
If I did murder that dear little girl
Whose name was Rose Connelly

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Red Right Hand Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is about God and "Revelations."

First, as others have noted, the Red Right Hand refers to God's vengeance (specifically against demons.) God/Ghost/Man is obviously the Trinity, with guru referring specifically to Jesus' time on Earth, when he had his devoted followers. But that is hardly the beginning.

The end of the first stanza talks about God coming from a gathering storm (end of the world?) The second stanza starts with telling you that "you've been a good boy" = forgiveness of sins. Rekindling of dreams = restoration of faith. Even through all this, he has the hidden Red Right Hand - that is, even though we as Christians see God as loving, there is the vengeful aspect, the Old Testament God, and the one that will return during the end times.

The third stanza talks about how God provides to the poor; how He gives to those who have nothing, and coming through the barrio/ghetto/etc. - those are all places where the poor reside.

The fourth, and final, stanza is more about Revelations. Seeing God in our nightmares and dreams talks about the rewards of Heaven ("you'll see him in your dreams") and punishment of Hell ("...nightmares"). Him not appearing to be what he seems means people's rejection of God; people not believing in Him, and so they won't recognize that it is God.

And the last four lines? Microscopic cog in catastrophic plan = playing a small part in the overall plan (the endgame being from Revelations.) And we've been all designed by God, and directed by our free will.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Fifteen Feet of Pure White Snow Lyrics 15 years ago
FYI, the hanging picture is of Soviet Premier Konstantin Chernenko. He was the last of the old guard before Gorbachev took office.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konstantin_Chernenko - it's pretty obvious once you compare.
