Chuck Berry – You Never Can Tell Lyrics 10 years ago
Its a wedding of teenagers that worked out well, and they are celebrating their anniversary. Oh and to the weirdos that think its about their funeral..NOPE. One doesn't have funerals in a chapel. Chapels are only licensed to marry people. You need a funeral home to berry someone, and can have a service in a church, never a chapel.

You don't have funerals at a chapel, dumass. Chapels are for weddings. A funeral is held at a funeral home or a church. There are so many holes inn that theory it does't even seem like its worth pointing out them all. Especially as they rung the chapel bell is in the first verse, not the las. Not to mention that the wedding is in the past, they have now been married for a year.

No, you are right. She was cheating only to avoid sleeping with her husband. Her husband wanted her to be pregnant and would have no way of knowing the kid wasn't his.

I think they are using Peacock as a euphamism. I think she won't swallow something else...that sounds a lot like Peacock. I think she is saying she refuses to do what the husband would like in bed. She feels that it isn't a part of the wife's duties. I doubt it has anything to do with the dish. Also, Henry was something of a glutton, and I have heard many things he liked to eat. the problem with Henry is the he was neither ugly nor old when he married Catherine. It doesn't really exactly fit any of the wives. None of them cheated on him for certain, and certainly none did it openly. After all, endangering the succession like that is treason. Im not sure too many men in England would have stooped so low as to schmuck the Queen.

Im thinking that no rational person thinks that this song is a cry to "just make the best of a situation". First of all, having affairs, pretending to menstruate and staying drunk is hardly much of a solution. And even with all the passive aggression she can muster she still wishes she was dead. Sure, arranged marriage and no chance of divorce was the way for much of history, but I doubt too many people did any better then she did. There are things in life we can't change. But being forced to be with someone you don't love is simply too much of a soul crushing experience for the regular mortal. Im thinkingher best bet is too invest in some arsenic.
That said...I do believe that she is talking about a particular person. The message is universal...but I think she had someone in mind.
Also..Peacock is pretty clearly a euphamism for something else. I don't think the girl refuses to swallow....something else.
