Patrick's music is like a lifeblood that releases the ill-channelled sorrows you can't quite (consciously) reach the source of. it is about love and feeling alone and the feeling of dependency and isolation that you must confront is your eternity. you have to accept you'll always be alone but you can't tear away from that person. your house begins to decay as you realise its impermanence; it will change and weather will age it. mould will go and it will have to be knocked down. you can be with someone but not forever. it is impermanent. i found it very touching reading all these comments | |

Is that what it said on the cd cover? Thanks for posting it! I love this song! I love how Patrick counts the casualties, it's so intense. On first thoughts i thought Count of Casualty was about the war in Iraq. Does the cd cover say anything about Hard Times by the way? I get the feeling Patrick refers to the Global Finanacial Crisis and September 11, but i could be wrong again. |

| i really like this song. i think the song is about a man who is too self-involved and needs a wake-up call. he figured a whole enigmatic and depressive image would make him seem sophisticated and charismatic- when in actual fact it did the opposite: "you think misery will make you stand apart from the crowd, but if you had walked past me today i wouldn't have picked you out." she fell in love with him but realised instead of being interesting and enigmatic he was just insecure, like a young boy. she isn't being aggressive or insulting in any way, she is just hurt, and is saying it how it is. i agree with your interpretation, cheetah9714. | |

I agree with Anarchitect and belvedere918. when someone you are in love with is gone, it can feel as if there is no way of recovering, because the person who saves you from times like this, is the one that is gone. the emotional dependence you had on this person disarmed your own independence, and now you feel as if you cannot save yourself- you need them to save you. this song has a wonderful message because it shows that You Can Save Yourself. i agree that this song is called Machine Gun, because as was put so well: it is a psychological call to arms, a defence mechanism and warning plea to take control of oneself, and to Fight For Survival. |

i love this song..! it has such a nice meaning, and the lyrics are really powerful: "good luck, and Don't Dare Give Up." it is about not losing hope, and not losing belief in yourself- even if you feel self-conscious, or even insecure or bad self-image: don't let yourself down" and "every now and then everybody feels stupid" it is a wonderful message- Never Give Up. i think patrick is trying to say Don't Give Up- "let no hand hold you down". he is trying to say that you should not give up if you are in pain or suffering- you can solve this problem, Don't Give Up- and you don't need anyone else to help you because it is ultimately up to you- "be your own hero". i think he is also trying to show the confusion he experienced in figuring out his gender and the stereotyping and gender roles and objectification with being either a male or female, and he is trying to say to Not condition yourself into being a gender sterotype if you're not, Just Be Yourself. you were all accurate in the meanings you perceived. |

i think the song is meant to represent a struggle with religion/faith/life and death, i agree with darkfrankhs. i think he is questioning what comes after death and what life is itself. he is questioning religion and faith and what exists outside of our existance in this life. i don't think the recently departed in question (his girlfriend) committed suicide- i think it was most likely an unavoidable or accidental death- cancer for example. maybe he is trying to show that after the fight for her, after she has died and he no longer has to stay strong, he is finally giving into the grief and now he is "the one who's drowning now". beautiful song. |
