Owen – Settled Down Lyrics 5 years ago
@[bluecassette:30562] I think you're close but it's a bit more general than that - a lot of mike's lyrics are about his struggle to get used to the settled down married life. I think it's more about that in general, that he's fighting his nature to be with the person he loves. Every now and then he does something dumb/acts up due to restlessness or a longing for his old life and it has repercussions in his marriage (the earth moves when I do, the house just fell down).

Giving in or getting lost seems to be about giving in to his desire to go raise hell or losing that part of his identity completely, which apparently he feels is part of who he is.

Owen – I'm Not Seventeen Lyrics 5 years ago
'hey cheekbones and eyes
I've been gone three weeks
now I'm a mess
my stomach's on strike
and its been three weeks
since my last breath'

I think it's pretty clear what's going on here - he's on tour and he misses his wife/girlfriend/home. The travel schedule can be super tiring, I'd interpret '3 weeks since my last breath' as either she is his 'breath' or he just feels exhausted by the rigors of touring and can't wait to get home and 'breathe' again.

'well I don't know why I'm here
cause I'm not in need of attention
and I'm not seventeen'

He feels like he's meant to be home and like this part of his life has passed him by - maybe it used to feel right and exciting earlier and when he was 17 all he wanted to do was tour, but now it's different.

'well I swear
if I make it home with my mind and some skin on my bones
I'll be the first one to throw up
these car keys and this cell phone
so I can't leave or talk to anyone
and this stupid wristwatch
so I'm unaware of the time that I've lost
I'm trying to be that which I'm not'

When he gets back home he promises all he wants is to spend time with her - he'll unplug, do nothing else.

And then again reiterating that he feels like he's pretending to be himself when he was younger.

Robbins said at a benefit in 97 at Black Cat in DC: "This song is based on an actual experience that occured in this very room." No idea what that means but it's something!

Porcupine Tree – Trains Lyrics 15 years ago
"When I hear the engine pass
I'm kissing you wide
The hissing subsides
I'm in luck

When the evening reaches here
You're tying me up
I'm dying of love
It's OK"

Perhaps the first half of this and the second half are about two different people. The first is about a woman he's in an actual relationship with, probably a girlfriend. The second could be about another girl. Maybe when he's around his girlfriend he feels fine, but when he's alone in the evening he pines for the other girl, hence 'you're tying me up/I'm dying of love'. Just throwing it out there.

I believe this was Chris Maitland... but the live version (on the Futile EP), which is Gavin Harrison, is absolutely incredible. I sometimes find myself checking the name of the song because I can't tell if it's the studio version or the live version!
