i think if we take this song as literally as possible it describes a relationship in which the man has succumbed to some hereditary defect and no longer has control of his body. that is my interpretation of the "marble house" in which he grows. if we consider the body to be the house of his consciousness, an immovable body of marble really would need someone else to cut its nails and carry it down the stairs. and if it's hereditary, his children, or "seed" would eventually share his fate in the marble house. i like what Jessic had to say about love based on need rather than anything romantic, and think it fits well with my theory. it makes me think of what would happen to a marriage when sex is no longer possible; the wife has to become "another kind of lover" and is struggling to find what that is. |
