Arctic Monkeys – Love Is a Laserquest Lyrics 13 years ago
My god, these lyrics are gorgeous. Btw, lyric booklet says 'can't think of THERE'.

I love the visuals of the song title, Laser Quest being a game where you try and tag as many people as you can without getting tagged yourself, so it's like this girl is running around, hitting all these guys that just swoon to the floor for her, and she never gets hit herself.

I love that viewpoint of the drug explanation too, and I think the other parts could be about Josh taking LSD with a friend while sleep-deprived, causing the trip to be even stranger and them to do some pretty crazy shit like driving with your teeth (?!) which most likely caused his face to bleed at some point :P So at the end of the trip they just look at the table and there's a bunch of drugs on there with a pile of rags from trying to stop the bleeding, and they're just thinking 'holy shit, what the hell did we do'. I'd write a song about it if that ever happened to me xD

Arctic Monkeys – A Choice of Three (Spoken Word) Lyrics 14 years ago
The song goes on longer than this...

He wasn't going to think twice about disposing of me, especially considering then he'd get the chance to sit with you.
Though his hiking boot-march through the carriage was rather revolting, it wasn't this that made my hands tense up into sour claws of nausea. It was the way he said it.
"You're in my seat."
No "excuse me," no polite uncertainty, just the rigid, hideous fact. The thud with which it landed expelled all my preparation. Before I remembered my plans to pretend to be asleep, deaf, French, or only sat there because someone else was in my seat, I was walking to find another vacancy.
I ended up dwelling unhappily beside a girl with a boys bum. I knew that because she walked too far past when she returned to one of what I thought to be two empty seats when I sat myself there. I fidgeted until our reunion on the platform, where you brutally informed me "That man was really rather pleasant, actually."
Today I thought I'd better make sure that couldn't happen again and I pulled the ticket from the top of my seat. It took a few attempts and the facade of hanging a jacket to finally complete. I was terribly cautious. There's a threat of punishment for such deeds by fine as far as I understand, but those shackles were at the back of my mind as I crushed the reservation in my hidden fist. Folding and squeezing as if it were that beast on the way to the seaside.
Fortunately, there was no retribution. If anything the train got quieter as the journey continued.
And so in the tunnel, unable to decide, my head flicked through this trilogy of angles, angel after angle, until we were out the other side.
My frantic twitching no doubt caused the man at the adjacent table to narrow his eyes at the very least, I imagine.
I don't know for sure.
I didn't have time to add him to the cycle.

I haven't heard of that interview, but it sounds more like that could be about Dangerous Animals?

Arctic Monkeys – Cornerstone Lyrics 14 years ago
The thing with the bars though is that "Cornerstone" doesn't really remind me of pirates, and that's where he finds the eventual girl.. I still stick by my "all a giant metaphor for just one girl who he likes and she lets her guard down in the end". It makes sense to me. Like when he says "and I've asked everyone, I'm beginning to think I imagined you all along", it's talking about when you're asking your friends whether the one you like likes you back, and you really start to worry that your love is unrequited and that you've been misreading signals that the other person has been sending.. And when he says "when I saw that she was on her own, I thought she might understand", she's easier to approach because she's not in a group of friends.

I've just gotten a new a perspective on the lyrics of this song. I now think that the song is really about only one girl, but the closer she gets to the sort of dream girl, is her falling more in love with him. She's sort of playing games with him, playing hard to get, but at the end when it's talking about that 'you couldn't get any closer', she's opened up to him and she's as in love with him as he is with her. I think asking the girl to call her 'her' name is asking her whether his love is requited. The chorus is just that he's sitting in the taxi going home, and he's so in love with this girl that he'd rather sit in the taxi mesmerizing and dreaming about her than to get to the real world. That's making a hell of a lot more sense in any case :D With this new perspective on things, this song is all the more beautiful :')

"The photo soon reverts to you" should be "The thought will soon revert to you"

I think he indeed can't get over this girl and it sounds like he's finding these whores that look like the chick and asking them whether he can call them the girl's name.. These lyrics are so weird. Especially the whole "I got together with your sister and I call her by your name" situation. Creepy. And I think the taxi he takes in the chorus just happens to smell like her, maybe because she used it right before he did, or maybe because some other girl with the same perfume sat in it, and that's why he wants to stay in it longer. This better be a really good work of fiction, Alex, or you're really starting to creep me out.
