Yann Tiersen – Comtine D'un Autre Ete: L'apres Midi Lyrics | 5 years ago |
Surprised no-one's mentioned the song title, or can everyone speak french!? I can't Have loved this song for well over a decade, bought a piano just so I could learn to play this song, and only just now did I look up the translation of the song title: French: comptine d'un autre été l'apres midi English: Nursery Rhyme from Another Summer Afternoon. Perfect. |
Elliott Smith – Sweet Adeline Lyrics | 11 years ago |
A guy I met travelling pointed out to me the correlations between this song and the movie "Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind". Although I may have been drunk or something at the time, the correlations are a little too frequent and uncanny to be coincidence. Think about it. |
Elliott Smith – Fake It Through the Day (Miss Misery, early version) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Yeah awesome lyrics in the last verse. I was really annoyed at sweetadeline.net when the posted the lyrics in the last line of the last verse as "And I cry to sleep when you talked to me... etc" What a disgrace. I email the Charlie Ramirez guy about 10 times regarding this fault, and he never changed it. Wanker! |

Blind Melon – Car Seat (God's Presents) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Damn... what a sound they get. Every one of their songs has the most unique feeling that really portrays what the song is about. If you couldn't understand English, you'd still know what his song is about. Shannon & friends, you're genius'. |
Blind Melon – Wilt Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Damn what a fine song. It definately deserves more comments over 6 years. Thanks Dina J, I had no idea what the song was about, but loved the lyrics all the same... |
Blind Melon – Mouthful Of Cavities Lyrics | 15 years ago |
It's about his addiction to heroin and the paranoid thoughts it makes him feel. He's also acknowledging his addiction's impact on the the people who care about him, but he still can't stop from feeling that way even though he recognizes it... |
Elliott Smith – A Fond Farewell Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This is only a suggestion, but I believe this song is about giving up his addiction to a drug (presumably heroin). He talks from the perspective of looking at himself sometimes, and from a first-person perspective at other times, I believe this is symbolic of how high he is at the time of each line. Let me try to explain how I've interpreted most of the lines: The Lite Brite's now black and white 'cause you took apart a picture that wasn't right. *(symbolic of removing the colourful thoughts & experiences he has when high. But he felt it wasn't right to be high so he removed the colour by quitting the drugs, now life seems dull; black & white.) Pitch burning on a shining sheet *(Something to do with burning heroin on foil?) The only maker that you'd want to meet *(don't know) A dying man in a living room , Whose shadow paces the floor He'll take you out any open door *(The dying man is his life as an addict, the living room is his physical self, the shadow is his addiction’s restless craving that will lead him to any option to get his next fix) This is not my life It's just a fond farewell to a friend *(friend = heroin) It's not what I'm like *(He likes himself more when sober) It's just a fond farewell to a friend Who couldn't get things right *(The heroin messed things up: it couldn’t improve his life) A fond farewell to a friend He said “really I just want to dance” “Good and evil matched perfect, it's a great romance” *('He' is his addiction, good = Elliott, evil = addiction) I can deal with some psychic pain If it'll slow down my higher brain *(He can handle the trauma of withdrawal from his addiction cause he knows it'll stop his addiction: his higher brain.) Veins full of disappearing ink *(is coming down from his latest injection, the ink being the drug) Vomiting in the kitchen sink *(A withdrawal symptom of quitting) Disconnecting from the missing link *(A missing link he can only connect with when high. Disconnecting indicating quitting) I see you're leaving me and taking up with the enemy *(The drugs are leaving him, and can only be got if he follows his enemy - his addiction) The cold comfort of the in-between *(Another withdrawal symptom — in between high & sober) A little less than a human being *(feels hollow without the drugs) A little less than a happy high *(is lower that what he could be if he'd never been on drugs) A little less than a suicide *(Quitting can feel like you're going to die, and because it was his choice to quit, it feels like suicide) The only things that you really tried Sorry, I know it's long-winded, I've listened to this song 1000's of times. |
