Bruce Springsteen – Lion's Den Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Classic Bruce 3-minute pop song. Suspect it was as much fun to record as it is to listen to. |
Bruce Springsteen – Linda Let Me Be The One Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Gorgeous song, one of the highlights of the brilliant 'Tracks' collection. Beautiful melody, lovely singing and playing. Classic Springsteen 'great song but doesn't really fit on an album' type stuff. |
Bruce Springsteen – Kingdom of Days Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Gorgeous melody, beautifully sung and played, and an indication that Bruce is starting to address his own mortality. The highlight on the 'Working On A Dream' album, along with the playful and quirky 'Outlaw Pete'. |
Bruce Springsteen – Jersey Girl Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Never been to NJ (or the USA so far) but the Live '75-'85 recording of this song just feels...I dunno...right? It feels like I imagine it would feel to walk down a boardwalk in Jersey on a warm Saturday night. Tom's original is magnificent, but as a Bruce fan this is pretty special, and one of the songs the fans hope he plucks out in the request slot on tour. |
Bruce Springsteen – Janey Don't You Lose Heart Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Joyous, glorious three-minute pop song from a man who writes this type of stuff for fun. Nice little cameo by Nils Lofgren, his backing vocals towards the end being his first recorded work as an E-Street Band member. |
Bruce Springsteen – Frankie Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Did Bruce ever sing a sweeter pair of lines than "Shining like these streetlights down here on the strand Bright as the rain in the palm of your hand" ? The studio version of this song, eventually released on the 'Tracks' box set, is essentially a first (uncut) draft of the song. The band tries things out, takes its time, and just plays through the song. As a result 'Frankie' is pretty much the most perfect 7 minutes of music I think I've ever heard from Bruce and the band. Just beautiful. |
Bruce Springsteen – Youngstown Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Oh, and 700 ton(ne)s of metal a day? Well, the world certainly has changed Sir. Even a medium sized blast furnace will produce ten times that amount. Probably reflects the date of the articles that Bruce read to research the song. |
Bruce Springsteen – Youngstown Lyrics | 15 years ago |
As a former steelworks employee I love this song. But did you know that the "Jenny" he sings to in the chorus isn't his wife or child, but the blast furnace at the Youngstown steelworks? It's common in the steel industry to name the blast furnaces at a plant - for example, the four BF's at Scunthorpe in the UK are called Anne, Bess, Victoria and Mary (after four Queens). 'Jeanette' (or 'Jenny') was the nickname of the furnace at Youngstown. |
Bruce Springsteen – Used Cars Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I don't think Bruce has ever written a better verse than: Now, the neighbors come from near and far As we pull up in our brandnew used car I wish he'd just hit the gas and let out a cry Tell `em all they can kiss our asses goodbye. Sums up the way a 9 or 10 year old kid feels in that situation perfectly. As for the question of where the 'narrator' is sitting - try the lyrics of 'My Hometown' for a clue... |
