The only song written directly about Kurt is "Friend of a Friend". But, that was written before Kurt died. |

Dave has actually said its about Jimmy. This song and "Word Forward" are for/about him. Can't find exactly where at the moment, but he has said so. He also said that for others, it can mean whatever they want it to mean, personally. But you aren't totally off-base in saying it is appropriate for Kurt as well, cause it certainly is. |

One of their worst? Apparently you don't know that The Pretender is one of, if not, THE, biggest/most popular song they've ever done. |

In addition, since this album is clearly about time, itself, its almost as if Dave is saying, "Look, I've seen and been through a lot of shit in my life, but I've been able to move on and past all of that and do something great. You can too. Don't let the past haunt you and appreciate everything you've got. The past is the past, so leave it there. I'm not leaving, and I understand that every day is a previous gift that should be appreciated. I love life, and I don't ever want this ride to end." You know, something like that. |

Agreed. IMO, it's about finding true happiness in life, doing what you love, and doing something worthwhile. Don't wallow in your grief or past failures; embrace change and do something great. Learn to walk again, pick yourself up and learn to be yourself again. Don't let anyone change you or determine who you are. Its possible to get lost along the way, but just be yourself and do what makes YOU happy. |

The song is about Jimmy Swanson, Dave's childhood friend who died a couple of years ago. |

You don't think the album is too hot? I personally think its fantastic. Easily one of their best, if not their best. Definitely the most consistent. |

It's Dave mumbling while reading an electronics instruction manual. |

Is the name calling necessary? So I was incorrect in my initial thoughts. I'm sorry that I didn't know this information that was revealed in a TV show that aired AFTER the song came out almost a month AFTER I initially posted. Jeez. |

Great song. Almost seems to me that it is Dave telling everyone to shut the hell up about saying every song is about Kurt. Almost like, this is their greatest hits album, a recollection of their legacy, songs that they want to be remembered by and they (the songs) don't need to be associated with Cobain's death. And when he's saying, "they're just fucking words!" I think it means that they (the words to a song) aren't necessarily meant to be interpreted deeply every single time, especially interpreting them as being about Kurt. Just let him write songs and stop harassing him about it. Also, it seems that when he sings: "They're just fucking words This is life or death It's time to clear the air You better save your breath Say have you heard Say have you heard The Poison in my heart And voices in my head" it is almost as if he is saying, "Yes, his death hurt me and I owe him a lot, so here is a quick note about him and that's it. STOP interpreting everything as being about Kurt". When he says, "you better save your breath" it is also like he is saying that he doesn't want to hear it anymore, so don't even bother. It still hurts him ("poison in my heart") and he is still haunted by it ("voices in my head") but he has moved on and so should everyone else. It just seems that way to me, especially because the song says, "fucking words" and considering that the Foo's never really swear, especially not to this extent, I think Dave is definitely trying to make a point with it. |

Uh, nope, this song isn't about Kurt. It is actually written for Dave's sister. He's said this on numerous occasions to. The song "Friend of a Friend" is the ONLY song he's EVER written for Kurt, and on top of that, it was written in 1990, four years before Kurt died. |
