I think its about drugs..Ectasy,Cocaine whatever..Hes using the 'girl' as a metaphor for drugs.. If you really read the lyrics you will see all kinds of references to drugs 'Soft drifted snow Death white' Sounds like cocaine 'I've paid For fifteen or more But my guts Can't take many more My hands are stuck To my jeans And she knows she knows What this must mean' Sounds like Heroin,'My guts cant take it anymore' - Heroin makes you physically sick.. 'My hands are stuck to my jeans' - Heroin makes you numb 'Until the sky turns green And the grass is several shades of blue Every member of parliament trips on glue' Sounds like a trip to me Just my thoughts :) |

I think Ashcroft is singing about sucicide because the person in the song hasnt found love or doesnt feel loved. 'Stood at the top of my hill over my town, i was found' - Possibly means suicide 'Ive been on the shelf too long' - 'Left on the shelf' is a term used when someone hasnt gotten married or found love. Sitting at home on my bed too long - Depression maybe?, Now it's time to hear my song - Suicide note? How are you gonna take it - How are you gonna react? Finding myself used to be hard,But now, I see the light - Now that the person is dead they realise they were wrong about themselves. If love is a drug,Then I don't need it - They now know they were loved afterall Jesus never saved me,He'll never save you too, and you know - Jesus didnt save them from themselves,Maybe they have lost faith? I think its about two people who have dreams of better places and must leave 'the fairground' to achieve them because theres nothing there for them anymore. 'Until the ice begins to thaw' This line tells us How dead the place is but it will get better once the 'Ice begins to thaw'Almost like a depression has hit and they must escape but the use of the word thaw means its only temporary so it will get better,They must go quickly because 'Its a dream thats getting cold'. But when they achieve their 'dream' or escape its not all they thought it'd be. Hence 'Keep on running,Theres no place like home' Thats my interpatation anyways probably total bullshit but there ya go Wasn't really keen on White Lies until i heard this,It made me go out and buy the album. |
