pretty sure the title of the song is taken from the show dexter. he refers to his split personality as his 'dark passenger', or having an 'alter ego' that no one else gets to see except for his victims at their last moment. if you've actually seen most of the episodes and know what the show's about, all of the lyrics to this song almost seem to fit in the form of the mind of dexter morgan as he struggles with his decisions and how they affect his human emotions he begins to develop. then again, i could be completely wrong and [id] could be a concept album. |

wow i've watched these guys grow a lot since the shitty dead in my arms cd. everything's gotten so much more mature since then. i could notice in the diseased & poisoned, but hell chose me is so sick. the music has gotten more technical (thank god) but still retains the grimy heaviness carnifex has always had. :-)
the lyrical content has grown too, even if it is still uber dark. at least it doesn't look like a teenager full of angst wrote it. |

if you're standing on a shoreline at night, at one point the moon may and probably will look as if it's resting/hovering above the water in the far distance. if the presumed person in the song is drifting/swimming out to the sea, i would assume 'swim to the moon' is a metaphor in a sense.
could be wrong, but that's what it made me think of when i asked myself that lol |

the cd doesn't feel like a concept record to me really.
from the first two verses you can tell music has obviously been outlawed across the planet.
"the scarecrow is watching", most likely referring to authority figures or whoever keeping an eye out for it.
and "building back the age old sound of song" pretty much sums up them reconstructing music as we know it, imo. |

i agree w/ you, they did seem to finally focus more on blake's drumming, but i also think they really paid attention to guitars on this album too. i was surprised paul and dustie switched from ibanez to PRS, but they do have great tones, i just miss how they had a more metal sound on colors. did you really read fossil genera is one of their worst songs? i think it's my fave on the new album. |

true that man. they just keep trying to pull a dream theatre thing w/ their songs, especially in terms of length. what a beastly long song, but you're right, a lot of it is a mess. i did enjoy blake's drum work and the main chorus to the song is also breathtaking :-)
but yeah, throughout this entire album, or on at least a few songs i got a real distinct dream theater vibe musically, which isn't bad i guess, it just further takes away from btbam's one-of-a-kind sound i think. still an outstanding album tho. i miss the ibanez's too.. :/ |

great song as far as musicianship goes. i don't feel the ending was as epic as white walls, but stunning nonetheless.
lyrically, this song reminds me of sun of nothing. seemingly about a guy who is extremely fed up with routine and is surrounded by too many "worldly people". so he drifts alone out into the middle of the ocean. similar to sun of nothing with a guy "building a rocket" to float towards the sun, imo. |

i think it's a direct continuation from "Enter Galactic", where the protagonist takes shrooms and continues on his "journey" in this song and hallucinating that he's a werewolf maybe?
