Propagandhi – Tertium Non Datur (née Repairing The Damaged Beard Lyrics 14 years ago
Also, I'm pretty sure Chris Hannah (along with the rest of the band) are Atheists, but I would never use a source of reference (Haillie Sallasse) that was written over 20 years ago. They were teenagers then, and have learned MUCH more about life and the world, and I guarantee have very different perspectives than they did back then.

I'd absolutely hate somebody constantly using poetry I wrote in my angsty, awkward teenage days as a reference to how I feel now. Oh god, the thought of that would be unbearable, lol...

Actually, in recent video interviews (that can be found on YouTube), Chris Hannah was asked what one book he'd recommend someone above all others. He recommended a Hedges book (and then several more Hedges books), and said that he's a huge fan.

Sum 41 – Walking Disaster Lyrics 15 years ago
I got a different feeling from this song than everyone else, though I'm sure the common perspective is probably more accurate.

I got the feeling that he moved on from his parents, realizing that they weren't any good for him in his life. And instead of focusing on those that brought him down, he directed his love, devotion and attention towards a brand new love (Avril?).

Against Me! – The Ocean Lyrics 15 years ago
Rocktheballs, Tom is married.

"...New Wave is garbage, and Tom and the rest of Against Me! are sellouts. " It seems like anyone who feels the need to seem cool pastes this at the end of everything they say when referring to Against Me!. The argument is old, man. Just shut up, it has nothing to do with the song.

Against Me! – Unprotected Sex with Multiple Partners Lyrics 15 years ago
No joke, I can open up just about any Against Me! song in Songmeanings.net, and it's nothing but an argument about whether the band "sold out".

Look, Most so-called "punks" have no idea what 'selling out' even means. And this has been going on since the 80s. Proof? Any moderately successful band will tell you how much crap they get. EVEN FUGAZI, throughout their band's career, got nothing but absolute nonsense from a good chunk of their fans about how they "sold out". FREAKING FUGAZI, for crying out loud!

Look, when you're in your teens or early 20s, and you're living at your parent's house/college dorms/crappy apartment, it's all fine and dandy to 'make a statement' and not make any money. But for most, people tend to want to go further with their lives. For example, Tom Gable is married now, and has said in interviews that they want to have kids and start a family. Fans forget that this band isn't a hobby for them, it's their career. If you want a family, you're going to want job security, and there's no real telling how long this band's success is going to last. As even said by Against Me themselves, record labels tend to chew bands up and spit them out, and kids' attention spans are so short that bands from just a few years ago are already forgotten. With their obvious talent, there's no reason for them not to make a comfortable living off of the band, while still creating compelling lyrics and great music.

NOFX – Best God in Show Lyrics 15 years ago
"When you've swapped free will for faith..."

That's an interesting lyric, because most non-believers do not believe in free will, either. Most Atheists, like myself, believe that free will is an illusion, and we're merely products of genetics, environment and influences. I wonder if they do believe in free will? Either that, or I'm looking too deeply in a lyric that merely is there to explain ignorance?

Propagandhi – Without Love Lyrics 15 years ago
I absolutely can't stand people who dismiss an album as 'emo', especially something as important as Propagandhi.

There's so much said here, I couldn't imagine dismissing it so easily, and it irks me that people do. "Oh no, he's talking about raw human emotion that's extremely real and terrifying, not partying, doing drugs and drinking beer?! EMO!" Not to mention, I wouldn't dream of using the same word to describe it as you would Dashboard Confessional or Thursday...

Propagandhi – Dear Coach's Corner Lyrics 15 years ago
Once again, Propagandhi is here to say what many people don't want to hear, but this time it's about a Canadian icon. Anyone who lives in Canada or is educated on the sport of hockey knows Don Cherry.

Ron McLean and Don Cherry host the very popular CBC show Hockey Night in Canada which is a pregame show right before 'the' Saturday night hockey game every week. Don Cherry uses the airtime to ramble on about specific hockey players and plays, talks about the Canadian troops overseas, and gives advice specifically directed towards children.

Unfortunately, he's not the type of person who should be an icon for such a great sport, and especially not someone who should be a role model for children. He's infamous for xenophobic, racist comments, and has shown many examples of being closed-minded and extremely thick-headed (as the clip before the song would indicate).

This song is important to me, as it is to Propagandhi as described in the lyrics. Any hockey fan should be terrified of this man teaching their children morals and values. My time spent in Canada shows that a lot of Canadians wrap themselves cozily in the mindset that this man is respectable, and Propagandhi feels that's dangerous (as do I).

EDIT: Oh, and the reason the letter is being directed to Ron McLean specifically is because Don Cherry is impossible to get through. His response to criticism is usually loud-mouthed, immature banter and childish insults- and Ron McLean is always the 'voice of reason' that gets muted by Cherry's incessant yelling.
