Set Your Goals – Our Ethos: A Legacy to Pass On Lyrics 14 years ago
Matt: "Ethos - Noun sociology. The fundamental character or spirit of a culture: The underlying sentiment that informs the beliefs, customs, or practices of a group or society; dominant assumptions of a people or period. A thank you to Chad Gilbert for his vocal duties in this song, and contributing souls that make up the spirit of this musical entity. This song is a statement encompassing our way of life and the future that is holds for us. Don't let it go..."

Set Your Goals – Flawed Methods of Persecution & Punishment Lyrics 14 years ago
Jordan: "I wanted to write a song for the record based on a documentary I watched called "At the death house door." The film deals with several accounts of severe mistreatment against prisoners on the texas death row, some of whom were later proven innocent after execution. It's a terribly flawed system, torturous and inhumane (most of the executions in the US each year are botched and prisoners will suffer great physical pain while waiting to die by lethal injection), and the officials who are running it are unwilling to admit they have done anything wrong. The thing that struck me most while watching this documentary was the great sense of hopelessness sitting deep in my stomach, feelings that there were no actions I could do to change these crimes and that the cowards committing these acts were completely above me and out of my control. It was as if I'd just have to deal with this sharp sadness coming over me, but I was able to find resolution in writing about my thought in response to these injustices. The hope is that this message will reach new ears. Spreading awareness of what is happening. It would be through this awareness that we can one day make a much needed change in the world. I encourage everyone to go out and watch this film and learn more."

Set Your Goals – Gaia Bleeds (Make Way For Man) Lyrics 14 years ago
Matt: "Humanity has assumed the role of God, with that role comes a great responsibility and we are failing. We abuse our powers as we kill ourselves, kill each other, and kill the earth. We suffocate our own life force at the source and consequently, our future darkens more every day as we hurl ourselves full speed into an ever deepening vortex of inevitable doom: the bleeding of Gaia. A big thank you to John Gula for his contribution to the song on all accounts."

Set Your Goals – Equals Lyrics 14 years ago
Jordan: "I wanted to expand on some things I was going through last year that I touched on in the second verse of this will be the death of us. I've been battling with a specific behavioral disorder for as long as I can remember, and everyday is like a gamble. It can put you up pretty high one second, leaving you feeling like you're ready to face any struggle, and it can drop you to your knees a split moment later with feelings like everything is ending and there is nothing else to live for. It can be very crippling mentally and physically, and it can take its toll on those around you just the same, but I don't want to run from it anymore, I want to accept myself for who I am and I want to remember there is always someone else out there who is going through the same things I am. When we break it down there is nothing to be ashamed of and we are all one of the same: Human. That's what this song is about in its simplest form, I feel I'm not always in the positive, not always able to offer comforting or reassuring advice: troubles have sadly gotten the best of me, too. But we can use these songs to remind us that everything always does work out if you can just keep faith, even when faith seems hard to find."

Set Your Goals – The Few That Remain Lyrics 14 years ago
Matt: "This is sort of a sequel to 'The Fallen.' There is a state of mind that we as a group of individuals share, encompassing a passion for the things we want in life and a rejection of the things we despise all around us...an ethic that our fallen heroes have long since abandoned, time reveals true character and the only solution is to strive to be our own heroes. We must serve as the spark that ignite the pilot light of change we desperately seek. We want to thank our artistically like minded friend Hayley Williams for collaborating on this track with us. there was a large amount of hip hop influence happening in the song and we wanted to just run with it and have fun on the vocals all around. We were very excited to work together with Hayley on a song that challenged us all to think in a stylistically different and creative way.

Set Your Goals – Like You to Me Lyrics 14 years ago
Jordan: "A song to encourage, and a song about how one person can save another. With wffection and love, we can rebuild and find a same important love for ourselves. It's in how someone who cares about us views us, and how we in turn are able to see them in ourselves. It can keep us young and it can help us to pass the same feelings on to others who are close to us. There is so much to benefit from the right relationship and the only way to find it is to try it. Don't be afraid, go out and ask it. I wrote these lyrics about feelings that were given back to me from someone who came into my life almost unexpectedly. In the good I found in them, and the good they saw in me that I had lost sight of. They reminded me that the love I keep for myself is the love I can give back to them and others, and I am not afraid of it anymore. A lot of the song uses movie and film script analogies to convey the surreal experiences that come with falling into a friend, and falling into music as well. Life like the movies translates literally into the Movielife, a band and soundtrack we each shared growing up attending shows and playing in bands around the bay area." --The ending dialog was taken from a poem Matt had written, addressing concerns of taking a chance on something new and the hopeful, possibility of defeating those doubts and forming a life long kinship in the process.--

Set Your Goals – Look Closer Lyrics 14 years ago
Matt: "The average American is largely ignorant and unaware in many ways. This song along with this entire record, is intended to open people's eyes and provoke thought. If gone unchecked, governments and corporations are capable of evils far worse than anything that may even seem conceivable to us until we're being controlled and it's too late to dig ourselves out of the pit of despair we've allowed to manifest behind the curtain. Fear, Sex, and Greed are very powerful marketing tools and whether you like it or not, you are seen as a mere demographic to the controlling powers in this country at all times regardless of what you are doing. Wake up. You are being studied and now it is time to do some research of your own. Never be afraid to question, look closer and see things for what they really are."

Set Your Goals – The Fallen Lyrics 14 years ago
Matt: "This song is about placing your complete trust in someone who has the most important part of your life in their hands and the harsh learning experience you can endure as a result of that trust. As a band we have encountered some people we've looked up to with a great amount of respect long before meeting them only to find that respect to be unshared, and a lack of reciprocation in the sincerity and commitment we'd invested in them developed, as we watched them fall from grace before our eyes. In doing so, their true intentions were unmasked. It hurts to learn that someone who once lived up to a high set of moral values proves only to let you down in a matter you would have never thought imaginable. Sometimes first impressions can be quite deceiving. There is a lesson to be learned in all of this: Never place anyone on a pedestal, peel away the facade and see people for what they really are. Never have heroes, become your own hero."

Crime in Stereo – Small Skeletal Lyrics 15 years ago
yeah I agree with imradurnot, it seems pretty obvious this is about smoking.

I used to think
As I aged with time
That it would shut it's eyes
And just let me be

i think this part follows up to the chorus "I used to think it would sleep"

it seems that his father died from smoking after all of those years and he realizes that the same thing could potentially happen to him. this is based off the lines "Sell my soul to the inferno" and "I sink a bit faster into my father's fate"

awesome song and my favorite one by CIS.

Pretty good song. Anyone know what he means by "It's not in what you do, more in what you say." ? I always thought it was the other way around.
