okay see i think theres a littttle more to it then most people are saying, i do think it was about a guy who had someone he loved very much, ran in the other direction, and then missed them again but, people are saying he was running from commitment he wasnt ready to have, yes right, but i also see him being justified in his leaving, like maybe she was asking more then he had to offer, maybe she wanted promises he couldnt make, he knows they are young and maybe nothing is forever, maybe she brought an extra burden to his life, and he was already going through other things so he had to leave her for his own good. she was this darkness in his life that at that point in his life he needed to leave behind to feel better, or to reconstruct.. So what if I was wrong? "But hold on to what you believe in the light When the darkness has robbed you of all your sight" after he says what if i was wrong.. he reminds himself.. no.. stand by your decision .. you made it for a reason, theres no reason to look back and miss the good when there was so much worse going on. that darkness blinded you at one point, and now continues to.. tricking you into believeing.. maybe it wasnt so bad back then, maybe i need you? maybe i want you? when in reality, you know the light is to stay AWAY. this is honestly the story of my relationship with my current boyfriend, i didnt stay away and now im realizing things didnt change.. time made me miss him but he continues to be this blinding black hole in my life.. that i need to remove myself from. |

this song means different things to everyone of course to me it made me think about actually living under my fathers roof. always so limited there.. i always wanted out im out now but im still with family so its not exactly the kind of freedom im literally counting down the days to have the windowsill part for me was not seeing the world, adventures or disasters from my bedroom window. i wanna travel, block out "tv and salesmen and debt" and the black OR blue decisions ... i just want to be. free. of it all |

I think this song is written to himself, or at least the verses are. He knows what's wrong and he knows how he is and how he wants to be, aswell he knows what he's doing isn't getting him anywhere. He's angry with himself for being such a coward, and so hes basically telling himself to man up and face his shit, and "listen to his mother" or listen to the people who a)love him, or b)are wiser than he and know what they are talking about. the chorus could be to anyone really. his mother, brother, girlfriend, wife, daughter, anyone whos heart can be broken in any form by some sort of mistake hes made. for example, the first verse is him putting himself down, admitting to what he does to himself, creating "all the problems that he made in his own head" obviously they had a poor result, hurt more then himself, precisely the person he speaks to in the chorus. then , in the second verse he speaks of fending for himself. knowing hes been through so much before, maybe even the same situation over and over, and he seems to be making the same mistake. & when it says "tremble little lion man" its as someone said above me, you never think of lions as scared or diminutive. but thats how he sees himself. he may be a stong man on the outside who appears to be stong, sturdy and brave, but on the inside its a different story. him realizing this also makes him realize that hell never change anything, mend anything broken, learn if he doesnt CHANGE. not only for himself, to feel bold again, but for the one he has hurt. |

I recently heard this song and I feel like I've known it all my life. That sounds odd and stupid maybe, but this song has so many meanings to me. Regardless of what it was written or intended to mean, like every song out there, it is open to interpretation, and frankly I believe this song can mean anything to anyone based on their situation. Keeping in mind of course that their situation involves some sort of .. "will for self improvement" or something along the lines of letting things go and starting fresh, feeling confident in your desicions. So weather you take it from a religious stand point, a theoretical point of view, or just want to base it on your own experiences, no take on this song can be wrong. I just love the depth and vast amount of understanding and value there is to it! perfect, perfect, perfect; in every sense! |

wow. this song was literally written for me.. line by line. i said some things to my ex boyfriend (who i broke up with because we both werent in any condition to keep fighting about the littlest things) and then i said sorry but he wasnt completely over what i had said and done. and i only did and said those things because i was so scared of losing him. and now hes going around flirting and like posting "engaged" with this other girl on fb, WHO btw i thought was my friend. like, i had cried in front of her over him and i had told her soo much. trusted her with so much. but me and my ex bf like.. i guess gave ourselves to eachother. and he is acting like i dont mean anything to him anymmore and that im juss another ex gf.. when we both know its not like that. and where the song said "Maybe it's all for the best, But I just don't see any good in this, no." it just reminds me about how i know that slowly things will seem better. but it never rlly will be. and i really dont see the good in us not being together. and how we might find someone who makes us relatively happy but they wont ever take the others place... and the story just goes on and on with each verse. its unbelievable. |
