The National – Squalor Victoria Lyrics 14 years ago
This is a forum for to discuss and, if possible, interpret lyrics - I know that politics may be a touchy subject but I don't see any reason to try to defend or prove someone else wrong, just because they might not share your opinion. However, to say that The National is not political might want to take a second look at their latest line of merchandise, featuring a t-shirt with a portrait of Obama, saying "Mr. November". Moreover, I choose to take this song as political, yet, this does not mean that it goes well in line with many of our own lives.

The Veils – The Letter Lyrics 14 years ago
According to Andrews, the whole album is one of breaking up (which puts the lot of the songs into context and put them in new light). This song, though, might not be all that you try/want to read into it. His lyrics are always pretty much straight forward, even though there is none the like in eloquency and style. I believe that this song is just a breaking up-tune, due to some sin in the past that haunt the two and prevent them from going on together. There's my two pennies

Opeth – Would? (Alice in Chains cover) Lyrics 14 years ago
No, this song was written by Cantrell as a hommage to Andrew Wood, late singer of Mothe Love Bone (hence the title 'would'). As far as the drugs relation, you're pretty much right, as Wood died of an overdose (see Whole Night Thing by Temple of the Dog).

Kula Shaker – Into The Deep Lyrics 15 years ago
How come noone comment on the good songs of the world?
well, anyhow, I was thinking... this is probably about
relief of and letting go of the hustle that it is to
live - entering the universal consciousness, infinite,
immanent, and transcendent reality which is the Divine
Ground of all matter, energy, time, space, being, and
everything beyond in this Universe... Brilliant song.

Brett Dennen – San Francisco Lyrics 15 years ago
Just really recently moved to San Francisco and by accident I stumbled into the music of Dennen a few days before leaving Europe. San Francisco being the first song to catch my attention it was my official tour guide to this beautiful town - awesome song and why, yes, the narrator of the song and me went to San Francisco for the same bloody reason. Not into Baseball yet but I did chose my place at North Beach on account of this awesome piece of music.

Mark Lanegan – Message To Mine Lyrics 15 years ago
Wouldn't say that this is one of the bluesiest - although yes, it is a good song.
I would rather say that it is about drugs and not some dragging of a body a pibsts state

* ...a womans name adopted

Shane Macgowan & The Popes – Aisling Lyrics 15 years ago
Beautiful song that proves Shane to be an outstanding poet. Aisling is a womans adopted from Gaelic as part of the Irish revival, and its actual meaning is "Dream". So, it does not have to be a woman that he left behind - might as well be a vision. The telephone poles mentioned could be as to measure distance or to imply that the narrator has left his home for work; hence, reality forces the narrator away and to leave his dreams (dreamt in the confidence of youth) behind. Those were my two pennies.
