Pixies – Isla de Encanta Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Ha! I hear this scream in my head when I close my eyes to go to bed. Absolutely my favorite part of any pixies song. |
Turin Brakes – Feeling Oblivion Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I keep coming back to this tune since it's release in 2001, but I've never really tried to make sense of it. Now that I look at it, it looks like it's about being high in one form or another. Strange that I didn't see it before with a title like "Feeling Oblivion". The term "rolling" could either be referring to taking ecstasy or driving/cruising. Maybe they meant both as they refer to cruising earlier in the tune. "Flowers seem friendly", "fear takes me over", "I don't really know where we are" all seem suspiciously drug related to me. |
The Shins – Nothing At All Lyrics | 14 years ago |
yup, yup. Mattford, I think you're right on the lyric updates. Also... in the part originally missed and labeled [huh], I believe it's: "Your mom, she culled you all on T.V. and you could still hit a ball." Seems to me to be referring to someone's wasted childhood, but that the person in question is still alright. I love the use of the word "cull". It seems to imply that the person was ditched by mom. ah, so sad. As to how this relates to the rest of the song... I have no idea. |
The Helio Sequence – Lately Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song really reminds me of a song by Breathless called 'over and over' Same vibe and lyric content. Love them both. |
The Helio Sequence – Can't Say No Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I bought this digitally so I haven't a booklet to check the lyrics, but to me the lyrics originally posted are more accurate than Calebdaguy's. Noble attempt though. ...but I must say, it's got to be 'guns kill, god saves' I mean that is such a well written line. |
Rogue Wave – Christians in Black Lyrics | 15 years ago |
There's also something very similar between this and Nick Drake's 'One of these things first'. This finally occurred to me on my 300th listen. |
Rogue Wave – Christians in Black Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The melody for this song was heavily borrowed from XTC's 'Sacrificial Bonfire' and normally that kind of thing puts me off. ...but this song is so horribly stuck in my head it's unbearable. I've put it on repeat and played it probably several hundred times within the last few days but it won't burn out. *sigh* yeah it's great. As for its meaning, it looks like it's calling back to a particular personal a experience in a vague and cryptic way so I don't think we'll get any insight from the lyrics unless the writer decide to elucidate us. However the only Christians that often wear black that I can think of are Nuns. Did this guy go to Catholic school perhaps? Who knows? Get out of my head!!! |
