Mmm, this song ties in so perfectly on The OC with Seth and Summer. It's ridiculous. Basically, though, I see it as his "come to Jesus moment." The epiphany when you realize just how much you care about someone, and you see how fantastic they are, but, as usually happens, he realizes it after she's gone. He tries to get her to come back and scrambles for reasons for her to accept his apology for not appreciating her before, but it's too late. The irony is that he's been lying about so much for so long and she's stuck around through his lies, but now that he's honest with her and fully grasps how fantastic she is, she's gone. Classic case of the boy who cried wolf. So sad. Yet it happens all too often. Anyway, my interpretation. And it's one of the best songs Death Cab has ever sung, in my opinion. I can't begin to say how many times I've listened to it after a bad night. |
