so i always thought this song was about breaking up and getting over someone and falling for someone else and recognizing the agonizing feeling of the game of love, how the girls choose you, and you don't get to choose, and how sometimes the only word that will make things better is yes. but i was listening to this song with my grandparents, and they both thought it was about illegitimate pregnancy, because of the line, "you never know until it shows..." so.... ???? |

oh man i think i interpreted this song completely different. i thought it was about someone who has trouble sleeping, and hundreds of thousands or thoughts are rolling through their head that kind of don't relate, and sometimes when they are having trouble sleeping, they bake a cake or something, and sometimes they just start singing incoherently. the part where he is like "you're dumbstruck baby, now you know" i think it could mean a lot of things..... possibly that she (yeah, i also thought it was about a girl) eventually falls asleep and cannot believe it. but then again, maybe i am just saying that because that is how i feel every night when i go to bed and don't fall asleep for hours. |

yeah, that's what I always thought. It's like, she's looking at herself and realizes she loed who she was when she was a kid, and didn't care about rules and being good or other people, but now she is a teenager who wears makeup and brightens her teeth. she wishes she was young again and carefree, but she can't stop it. butthen i can never understand the part where she's like, "park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me..." so, i think it is possible that is froma younger sister to an older one, wishing her role model/etc. was nicer and more of kid again. everything else still applies, except in the birdge, she is trying to gether sister to come home. that is my take on everything... |

to me, this song is talking about a little girl growing up, like a photo album song. first, Rose was born. she likes to act as a child. I guess maybe her parents have high expectations for her, so they're always telling her 'be good or be gone.' then, in the second verse, I'm reminded again of photos/home videos, range and frame by frame movement and timing, etc. in the third verse, the guys is talking about how he read to her, but she's getting older so its less and less and her childhood places (e.g. the museum) are all in the past. So then 'sell all your things' is talking about how she's getting rid of all her childhood possessions because she is going far away 'at the end of the drive.' At the very end, she's looking back at this town she grew up in and she feels like she's outgrown it completely, and doesn't fit her because it's a town she ONCE knew. anyways, that's just how i think of t, but I enjoy the idea of a child prodigy tht turns up being pretty normal. |
