Al Stewart – Year Of The Cat Lyrics 15 years ago
I was on the radio when this first came out, doing an overnight show. Often you need to hear a song a few times before it sinks in, but I knew halfway through that this was my new favorite. And it has been for over 30 years now. A friend who works in the business listened to it with me a few years later and we were just marvelling at Al's enunciation, the clearest I've ever heard to be sure. My favorite is when he sings "caaaaaaa...t"; gets me every time.

Edward Bear – Last Song Lyrics 15 years ago
Quentin Tarantino has called Edward Bear the Beatles of Canada. As great a song as this is, the
follow-up, "Close Your Eyes," is one of my all-time favorites.

The Donnas – Get Rid Of That Girl Lyrics 15 years ago
I always thought that line said "I just can't wait to punch her in her teeth." I think this is done in roughly the style of their heroes, The Ramones. The other three look pretty much the same as now, but Allison is barely recognizable from today. That face that Torry makes after throwing her cymbal is cute.

Ramones – Glad To See You Go Lyrics 15 years ago
I think Connie was the girlfriend in "Chinese Rock," too.

Ramones – Bonzo Goes To Bitburg Lyrics 15 years ago
Whether we agree with Johnny's political views or not, I think he must be respected for sticking to his beliefs and not selling out just because it would have been more popular to do so. After all, isn't that one of the things we really like about the Ramones to begin with?

Ramones – Chinese Rock Lyrics 15 years ago
"they refused to play it because it was about drugs" Gee, I wonder who made THAT decision!
I agree with gabbagabbaheygirl about "poor Dee Dee;" after his childhood, the poor guy probably never even had a chance. If it hadn't been for the band, would he even have lived to 40? 30? I salute him for doing as well as he could and for staying off heroin for so many year before his passing. We'll never forget you, Dougie.

If you want another good view of Dee Dee's early life and troubles, study the lyrics of "Poison Heart."
I think this song and that one, along with "53rd and 3rd," "Chinese Rock," and any of the songs about bad relationships tell much of his story.

Ramones – Do You Remember Rock'n'roll Radio? Lyrics 15 years ago
Thoughts on this: what a great job Dee Dee did in funny videos, from being caught with the radio under the sheets in this to the chemistry scene in "Rock n' Roll High School." How spooky is it, since Spector's investigation has been in the news, to remember Johnny saying, 30 years ago, "what are you going to do, Phil, shoot me?" Yes, it was heavily produced but also remember it was their attempt to get some respect and airplay (therefore sales) from the radio business.

Ramones – Poison Heart Lyrics 15 years ago
I hope they gave Dee Dee some of the money this made.

My favorite part, besides the lyrics, is near the end where Joey sings "and this one still survives" and right after, Marky does this little drum flourish; first time I heard it I yelled "yeah!"

Does anyone know who the person is dancing behind Johnny for just a second or two?

Ramones – Commando Lyrics 15 years ago
I've always believed it was about Dee Dee's father, a Vietnam veteran who was stationed in Berlin where Dee Dee grew up. His father, allegedly an alcoholic who was very tough to deal with, would probably be recognized in the four rules, which Dee Dee was told to live by: (obey) the laws of Germany, be nice to Mommy, Don't talk to commies (East Berlin residents), and the eat kosher salami part I don't quite get.
I think the "Commando" title refers to Mr. Colvin. The other locations mentioned in the song may be places he was formerly stationed.

Ramones – Go Lil' Camaro Go Lyrics 15 years ago
Dee Dee wrote it, though it does seem like something Johnny (or Marky) would be into. I think it's pretty obviously a tribute to the Beach Boys, one of the Ramones' biggest influences. Think fast, fun, sub-2:00 songs.

Ramones – I Don't Care Lyrics 15 years ago
I don't think the living Ramones should ever get back together commercially, but if they wanted to do a special benefit for cancer research or something, CJ sings real well and plays bass, Marky and Richie on drums, and Tommy I think can play just about anything made anyway, and played some leads on a few studio recordings.

Ramones – Highest Trails Above Lyrics 15 years ago
The last three lines are on Dee Dee's headstone.

Ramones – Go Lil' Camaro Go Lyrics 15 years ago
Dee Dee wrote it, though I can certainly understand why it seems to sound more Johnnyesque.

I personally think it's a tribute to the Beach Boys, one of The Ramones' major influences.

I think Rusty is on the right track; I've always felt the song is about Dee Dee's father. He was a Vietnam veteran who was stationed in Berlin, where Dee Dee grew up.
The laws of Germany are obvious; be nice to mommy is too; don't talk to commies (East Berlin residents); the kosher salami I'm not sure, but could just be a dig. Dee Dee loved Germany, as is evident in many songs, including "Blitzkreig Bop," which he renamed after it was originally called "Animal Hop. I think it's an indictment of Dee Dee's father, who was an alcoholic and possibly home life caused many of Dee Dee's later problems.
