Mojave 3 – In Love With A View Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"And i wished I could show you the same view of you by the window and me feeling fine.' Killer sentence, killer track. |
Crystal Castles – Intimate Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Definitely about HIV ; a guy who doesn't care about transmiting his disease to others ("you're Positive but they don't need to know.") |
Marina and the Diamonds – Hollywood Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Official lyrics, taken from Marina' blog: American dream is the american queen American queen is the american dream She is a polish girl in america tall, tanned hot blonde called Anya I asked her “Why would you want to be a Hollywood wife?” “Because I don’t wanna end up living in a dive on Vine” Air hostesses doing gossip magazine crosswords on a flight to old L.A. 39 years old with a mile-high sheen trying to stimulate a mind that is slowly starting to decay I itch my skin to stand up and say “Lady, I know why your thoughts turned grey” Hollywood infected your brain You wanted kissing in the rain Living in a movie scene Puking American dreams I’m obsessed with the mess that’s America I’m obsessed with the mess that’s America A fat security making plays for me soon as I touch down in old LA He says “OH MY GOD, YOU LOOK JUST SHAKIRA NO, NO! Ladytron – The Lovers Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think it's more about prostitution. "The Lovers" are not a couple for me, but represent the prostitutes in the street ("outside your room" ; "the sirens accross the street"). But overall, I'd say it's about a man who is already engaged but can't stop thinking about the temptation to have sex with a prostitute (hence the use of "your room" and "wakes you day"). |
Ladytron – Startup Chime Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Yes, I agree. The first line is defintiely clear for me: Holiday are usually made for people to go out and have fun with friends, but in that case the character doesn't need these holiday because she's addicted to the technology. More than isolationism, I think the song is also about the fact of being addicted to technology. As even with tests, there is nothing bad in it because it's invisible. Just some kind of mental disease/addiction. I really like the lyrics. A very sad song, yet powerful lyrics. I somehow can relate to it. |
K's Choice – Old Woman Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Haha, I never paid attention to the lyrics when I was young. I always thought this song was about a senile old woman. I'm glad I grew up :D. Very nice lyrics and great song. As for the "cup of tea" ; it could be about alcohol. Like the man was actually alcoholic, and death took him because of that. |
K's Choice – To This Day Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The spoken part comes from Hopscotch, a novel written by Julio Cortázar. More about the book here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hopscotch_(Cort%C3%A1zar) |
Chapterhouse – Pearl Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Agreed with the previous comment. This song makes me wanna stop time and dance for hour. Very weird sensation, actually. As for the meaning, obviously about a girl breaking up with a man. Although he's kinda hurt, he understands her decision. |
Dido – For One Day Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I guess this is obviously about her father who passed away during the recording of Safe Trip Home. The song deals with the fact she would love to have one day with her father, but simply can't as he's stuck in his hospital bed. This is, in my opinion, a very cute yet heartbreaking. I don't know which illness had her father but it seems as if he was clearly inconscious and Dido had to take decisions ("I wouldn't guess for you" ; "You'd tell me what to say/to do"). It definitely should have made it on the album. One of her best song. |
Metric – Blindness Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I also thought about Lost. The plane, the accident, the survivors, etc... Some parts don't fit though. I really love the lines "You gave me a life I never chose. I wanna leave but the world won't let me go." ; both for what it means and how it is sung. |
Lacuna Coil – Lost Lullaby Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Possibly about a one-way relationship. The character seems pretty much engaged in it, while the other doesn't seem to care. She knows it though, as she knows she's just a little part of his history (or not "the right" girl). Still, it seems impossible for her to take the decision to leave him and keeps a little part of hope ("will you promise me the things you told me?") and can't decide wether she wants to have her little part of happiness with him or suffer a bit now to feel better soon ("it's so hard to decided between myself and you"). Such a simple song, both in the lyrics and the music but an excellent one. I love Cristina's interpretation, almost as if she was bored and very "detached." Maybe my favourite Lacuna Coil song, even if it's a B-Side (which reinforces its beauty IMO). |
Ladytron – Cease2xist Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I agree with the previous comment, about the memories you leave behind past relationships. " You live in someone else’s song. Have you been there too long, or not long enough?" Artists often write songs about someone who was important in their life and changed them (good or bad). You can write wether about a short relationship ("not long enough") or about a long one which might have hurt you ("too long") This song is a very interesting question about what memories. When do loved ones go away? When you stop thinking of them in a bad way, or when you stop missing them (= forget them). |
Sirenia – The Seventh Summer Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I don't understand why the "seventh summer." Does it have anything to do with childhood? As it is refered to "his life." Maybe this is about the loss of one of Morten's parent, though I absolutely don't know if something like that happened in his life. The references to "demons" fit in this interpretation, as children are often scared by demons and evil things. And the line "I wish you could be right here to mend my broken life" may refer to the fact that he's looking for some comfort he can't find anywhere else than in his lost one. Anyway, I also agree with the previous interpretation. The whole song is about the loss of someone and how you can be lost in life due to this loss. |
Combichrist – Kickstart The Fight Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Definitely about partying. And how you can drown your troubles into alcohol, music and sex. I don't think there's a "deeper" meaning in it. Great song anyway, I love the mix of the two voices. It's quite unusual for Combichrist. |
Ayria – Start Again Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Intense song. I just love how the rythm go faster and faster until the explosion in the chorus. As for the meaning, I'd say it's about reaching new goals in your life. The whole song seems to me as a character who realizes she can do what she's always dreamt, as she's never been able to realize that before. But as the song goes even faster, she realizes she can "fall" from her sky (= fall in her goal) and thus start again from the beginning. Not sure if this is supposed to be a positive or negative song, but it's very moving in my opinion. |
