Lady GaGa – Bloody Mary Lyrics 12 years ago
The dance metaphor is certainly more than that. I think it's about faith/spirituality, in general, because she uses it in ScheiBe too.

I think the wordplay here is: Pontius killed the King (Jesus) upon his throne... "his" referring to Pontius, who, while on his throne killed Jesus (the King who could also be argued to have been on his own throne)..and then PUNK-tius killing the KING refers to punk music killing rock and roll (as in, Elvis, the King).. GaGa is making a side commentary to be playful in the song. Does that sound valid? Haha

OOPS! In the second paragraph, I meant to say that Y is unable to express love for X who "cut [Y] down a tree and brought it back to [Y]" !!!! Sorry!!

Sorry if this has been posted before.

X and Y will be used to denote gender ambiguity. This song can be for any two lovers. The role of Y is assumed by Chris Martin but still, I will use gender-neutral references.

I think that 'Swallowed in the Sea' is about two lovers, X and Y. X is unable to fully express love unlike Y who easily "cut [X] down a tree and brought it back to [X]". This line can be interpreted to mean that Y wrote something for X whether it was a poem, a book, a song. The point is, this written piece, cut down from a tree, expressed exactly how much X loved Y but more than that, it made Y realize that there was probably more that Y could contribute to their relationship (i.e. telling X how much love Y really had for X).

And so that's what Y does. Y writes this beautiful song to prove Y's love for X. A thousand miles long, a thousand words long. To Y, even these exaggerations aren't enough to prove such a love though. Y's "writing" motif henceforth becomes more evident.

Y says "I could write you a song," "I could write a book," "I could write it down or spread it all around" (as in, Y could pass down his "story" not just in writing but orally as well). Basically, this "writing" motif allows Y to express how X and Y's love is so great, it can and should go down in history. Thus, this becomes Y's endeavor and it is manifested through the completion of the actual song (which is so beautiful, by that way, that if my interpretation is somewhat right, then X and Y's story lives on). Isn't that romantic!?

And get this: Y says "Get lost and then get found or swallowed in the sea."
I think this means Y realizes that their love story will get lost in history but because it is written down, it will be found again. It's a bit pessimistic to say that their love story could alos get swallowed in the sea but Y acknowledges this reality and moreover, Y acknowledges this BEAUTY.

And Y is right to think that having a great love story is something you would want to share with the world but even if it's lost, it can at least be swallowed in the sea and be timeless. Nonetheless, Y asserts that X doesn't deserve to be forgotten or swallowed because for Y, X has demonstrated unconditional love even when Y couldn't express it beforehand.

I LOVE THIS SONG.

Notice the 9 second silence in the beginning. I think it may be significant in setting this timeless sort of mood I've been describing. It also invokes a feeling of loss (for nine seconds) and then when the music starts is when X and Y are "found".

LOVE IT.

Britney Spears – If U Seek Amy Lyrics 14 years ago
Actually, I think there is much more to this song.. I see it as dealing with perceptions of duality: Amy is sort of Britney's alter ego, but moreso, Amy is the Britney that the media sees.. If you listen to the lyrics it has its multiple personality moments where she says she just wants to go to the party where Amy's at and then suddenly asks for someone to take me home.. so it's as if the song pits against each other: media's idea of Britney versus who Britney wants to be, and on an underlying level, versus who she really is. I got this idea after finally seeing the video.. Britney is making it clear that she is not what the media sees her to be, hence the complete name change to Amy.. so, as Britney desperately hopes, if you seek Amy, she's not here.

Beyoncé – Radio Lyrics 14 years ago
I think this might be about every little girl (and boy) out there who's ever put on their "stunna shades" and sung out loud with their favorite songs on the radio.. If you think about it, Beyonce could have been just like this before she made her fame: singing in her room at the top of her lungs while the radio DJ played her songs. You know you do it too..

Snow Patrol – Run Lyrics 14 years ago
// EDIT //

For anyone who cares, I forgot to include my analysis of this stanza:

"And I can barely look at you
But every single time I do
I know we'll make it anywhere
Away from here"

The guy can't bare to look at the girl because she's drowning in her sorrows and is extremely depressed over their abortion*.. However, when he does look at the girl he's reminded of how much he loves her and how strong their relationship is (or was) outside the context of the abortion they just went through...

* See my earlier post for the elaboration of this presumption..

OKAY, THIS MAY BE A LONG SHOT... but here's an alternative interpretation.. And I think it fits in pretty well.. Btw, this came to me when I was staring up at a tall roof one day while listening to the song and those two things suddenly made me think about suicide.. So then I thought what if this song was about suicide? But what reason would the singer have to want to take their lives... Then I thought:

What if this song was about ABORTION?

In my opinion, the male partner is singing to his wife/girlfriend after they just decided to get an abortion. Now the girl is depressed because she feels horrible about her decision and the guy is trying to remind her it was THEIR decision and it's time to move on now..

The first two stanzas open the scene where the guy is trying to tell the girl to get over it so he's going to "sing it one last time for [her]". He loves her and he wants their decision to abort their baby to not affect their relationship so he tries to console her by telling her he still loves her no matter what: "You've been the only thing that's right in all I've done.." This line can also be taken to mean that all she's ever been for him is "right" so their decision to abort the baby was right (in their case.. maybe they're young lovers).

By this interpretation, the chorus is simplified a bit: "Light up, light up" = cheer up (or crudely, get over it... I'll explain this at the end of the paragraph); "Even if you cannot hear my voice I'll be right beside you dear" = even if she is too numb at the moment to hear what he has to say or even if she doesn't want to believe anymore that their decision was the right thing to do (hence she CANNOT hear his voice), he will still be there at the end after she collects herself. The line "AS IF you have a choice" is the reminder that in the cruelest sense, they never really had a choice probably because their parents were a factor into the decision or simply because they couldn't raise a baby in their current state. Thus, "light up" = get over it.. It's not as if you had a choice anyway..

"We'll run for our lives" - forget about this problem.. let's run from it.
"Why you can't raise your voice to say" - this might solidify the fact that she really didn't have a choice to keep the baby. So extreme, I know, but those are the lows that come with abortion.

The second refrain is what really did it for me: "to think I may not see [our baby's] eyes makes me really want to cry"..

And so I guess that's it.. The ONLY thing that weakens my case a bit comes at the end of the song when the guy says "we're bound to be afraid even if its just for a few days" ... REALLY? You just had an abortion but you're going to get over it in a few days? Some people never get over it... SOOO this does weaken my case a bit but only to the extent that it can be interpreted to mean that the guy is REALLLLY trying to console the girl, to the point where he's begging her to get over the whole thing as soon as possible. "a few days" could just refer to his optimism that the girl won't be so depressed anymore because it kills him to see like that... (AGAIN, this is an interpretation. I'm not claiming that Snow Patrol has had experience in abortion!)

Okay that's all.

Also, I've been thinking about making a music video to this song but I really need to find two good actors to portray the part! Please don't steal my idea! HAHA :)

Regina Spektor – Fidelity Lyrics 15 years ago
This interpretation is drawn from the music video for 'Fidelity'.
Suppose that "breaking my heart" is actually a good thing (after all, when the heart locket shatters in the video, something good literally comes out of it). Taking that to be true, this song can be interpreted to mean that the girl (in this case, Regina) did not want to get hurt by falling in love but she did anyway. The songs and voices she hears are her emotions and feelings of love for the boy and it's "breaking her heart" because the feelings are causing her heart to shatter the ceramic locket that she has placed over to lock away her heart.
The video represents this well by presenting her love life in black and white up until she decides to let her "heart break" (or let her figurative heart locket break -- the heart locket that was locking away her true feelings) and then COLOR fills her world. Then the guy comes out too and by the way she touches him, it shows that he was there all along but she just couldn't see him. And he blinks and smiles (my favorite part!) when she touches him because he realizes she finally opened her heart to him by shattering her heart (locket).

What do you all think about this..? Does it make sense??
I think it's pretty reasonable.
The twist of the "breaking my heart" lyric is so Regina that it wouldn't surprise me if it was along these lines.

Sorry if anyone has mentioned this before!
