Everything Everything – Suffragette Suffragette Lyrics 13 years ago
i wish wish wish it really was 'who's gonna sit on your face when i'm gone, who's gonna sit on your face when i'm not there'. i think it's the best commonly misheard line i've ever commonly misheard. :D

I can't believe no one comments these songs! This is a work of genius. It wouldn't be as genius if he wasn't so Scottish, but he is, and it is, and I love it.

The Smiths – Meat Is Murder Lyrics 14 years ago
It's melodramatic, but it seems so unself-conscious about that that I love it. (The cow noises are too much, though.) Also, there's something about the way Morrissey hisses the word 'murder'... I don't know. I just enjoy hearing it.

"Does the body rule the mind
or does the mind rule the body?
I dunno..."

I just love the complete apathy. And bathos. He's posing a big question, and you expect a big answer, and you get nothing. :D

This song makes me laugh out loud on public transport if it happens to come up on my iPod. I love it. Truly and deeply I love it.

The Smiths – Nowhere Fast Lyrics 14 years ago
I love this song so much! It's that Smiths way of setting such potentially depressing lyrics against such catchy, enthusaistic music.

It seems to me like the narrator is in this suburban kind of town, and he's feeling repressed by the atmosphere and petty excitements of the people there, but he just can't work up the enthusiasm to do anything about the situation - or even anything at all. It's like he's just been crushed into total apathy. A but like William, It Was Really Nothing, where the narrator's humdrum town has made him apathetic about the prospect of marrying the fat, desperate girl, I thought...

This song is beautiful. It doesn't matter to me what it's actually about, because I can just project onto it, and I'd much rather do that than have to have a fixed idea. It's just so, so beautiful...

Morrissey – Mute Witness Lyrics 15 years ago
I just love this song! I don't really have any great observations to add; mozza_fan pretty much said it all. I think a young deaf girl who can't speak witnessed a crime, and the police officer can't decide whether to sympathise with her disability or be annoyed that it is hindering the investigation.

(I could swear that last time I looked at these lyrics there were lots more comments...)

But they can be a symptom of a mental disorder in adults, which is what I meant. In both the manic and depressed phases of bipolar disorder they're actually pretty common.

Though I do agree that the childish connotation is interesting! ^_^

I always think of WWII for this song, too! I think as well as everything said above, it's also that reference to 'a photo, black and white for your refridgerator'. I feel that because photos and fridges were two things just getting really very popular around the world at that time, she's sarky in using these two shiny new objects in a song that seems to be about war and death. Like, 'yes, we're all dying - but hey! You have a new fridge and I have a camera! Whoa!'

Well, that's how I feel, anyway. ^_^

Love love love this song so much! And the book's pretty nifty too, and the film I love... more than either? It hurts my Morrisseyfixated soul to say so, but I really do.

But I love the song anyway. ^_^

Morrissey – First Of The Gang To Die Lyrics 15 years ago
he *might* be saying 'you are the quarry', because he has an album with that title - it's the album i've got this song on.

like on a song by elbow, he says 'i've been drinking with the seldom seen kid' before the music starts and then the album is called 'the seldom seen kid' too.

so it's likely that is what morrissey's saying, though i don't know why he would be. (:

ah, i mean 'my manic and i', 'night terror', and also plus 'ghosts', when she talks about breakdowns, as being about the same person.

Laura Marling – I Know You!!! Lyrics 15 years ago
i was upset when i first heard this, because i love everything else she's done and i've been following her for a year or so, and then i heard the lyrics:

'And everybody knows you're fucking intelligent
So, why do you feel the need to please?'

and i don't like them at all... being smart doesn't negate the need to be liked.

ah, well. i just try and ignore that couplet whenever it's playing because i love everything else of hers so very absolutely much. :D:D:DDD:D

i've always thought of this as about the same person as 'my manic and i', because both of them have the association with mental illness. the same troubled boyfriend with his same troubled symptoms and this time he's suffering from night terrors, rather than mania.

and i love it. :D

Watch my STEADY, lonesome gait and BE AWARE

or at least that's how i'm hearing it, and it seems to make more sense than 'sturdy'.

i am in love with this song... :)
