OK...
Having listened to this song literally thousands of times over the past 17 yrs, and listening to this album again over the past week or so (and listening to that portion of the song about 30 times over the past half hour ! ;-)), I'm totally convinced the 4th last line is 'Bring back the shame, of a man that follows through' rather than 'Bring back the shame, of the many for the few'.

As much as I love Burt, this version should have been released as the single & not the version with Burt/Gary Numan sharing vocals. The synths sound much more 'futuristic' (synthier ??), while it still has that 'edge' from the downtuned guitar/bass. I also think Numan's voice suits the song much better than Burt's.
I know some Fear Factory fans don't like it, but this is far from the worse thing they've done, and it gave them much needed commercial exposure in the UK particularly. |

@musiqual - Yep you're spot on. Laibach's music/lyrics are influenced by & have certain elements of 'propaganda' to them. I believe the group have said in the past that various types/instances of propaganda throughout recent history have been an influence on their music. |

Did anyone hear this song for the first time, stop, and go 'Whoa. What/who the fuck is that ?'. (I was in a record store during my lunch hour in early 1993). This song had a bigger impact on me the first time I heard it than any other song I've ever heard (and it's not even close to my favourite song, even tho it's a great one & I do like it a lot).
It just made you stop & listen. So much simmering anger at the start, culminating in a definitive & defiant "No".

So far as the 'now that you're on your own, Silver' lyric goes, I've listened to this song hundreds of times over the past 6 yrs & I reckon it's a reference to the Lone Ranger/Silver I.E they were inseparable - a team and I think this song is about relationships - how relationships are like being in a team, etc so he's basically saying relationship is over, we're no longer that team - where are you gonna go Silver ? |

I think this song is about the things we do & the compromises we make to be/stay in love. We have to give away a part of ourselves every single time we do it.

Damn I'm good ! Only took me 10 minutes to transcribe the lyrics to this song (tho I have listened to it a couple dozen times over the last 6 mths), and this is the first site on the Interwebz the lyrics to this song were posted...I'd been looking for the lyrics for months, couldn't find them, and the other night said "fuck it, I'll transcribe & post them myself"...
So I did :-)
The song is off the album "Six to Midnight" (released late 2009), which is a real cracker...If you like the Grinners and you haven't heard the album yet, get it ! You won't be sorry :-) |
