Richard recently did an interview stating this album details his affair with D’Arcy Wretzky while she was married to Kerry Brown. So, yeah, this is about him yearning for her when she was married. He refers to her as his favorite piece of plastic held to his ear because they spent a lot of time talking on the phone while they were both on the road. |

Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivian were very open about this album being a reflection on their relationship ending.
"Stop taking the long way before we play" is a pretty literal lyric about avoiding each other during shows. I'm not sure who ended the relationship and who wanted to keep it going, but it was obviously written from the latter's perspective. Great song, very touching knowing the reality of the lyrics. |

Probably the best song on what is a fairly lackluster album. Obviously the lyricists got his heart broken and all the songs on the album center around that theme.
I like the chorus a lot with the "seen in the headlines" and "a world famous artist" singing part.
I find the lyrics a littler pretentious and a watered down song reminiscent of the Counting Crows' "A Long December" where the protagonist is wanting to get away from all the lights, the attention, and the fame. He wants to just get back to a warm and safe place, in the arms of his lover, but the rest of the album paints picture of him not getting that and so he will remain hanging on the wall for everyone to just look at and take photos of. |

Sounds like common jealousy, alcohol-induced anger over a guy getting a girl the lyricist wants. Maybe there is a lack of alcohol, but this is the kind of tirade I would expect from a drunk dude at a bar or a party somewhere. |
