Red – Feed The Machine Lyrics | 11 years ago |
The "machine" in the song is temptation and sin. I will go over the lyrics verse by verse Lie!!!---Sin is a lie. It feels good. Sounds good. But isn't good. It's a lie. Turn around, they might be watching And you never disappoint them Hide your innocence before they see right through You mustn't disappoint them This verse describes the shame of sin and how we hide it to save our reputation. Sin is our skeleton in the closet. You need the danger just to feel your heart beat You need to die just to find your identity You need a knife just to know that you can bleed You need the pain now just to feel anything Sin is a rush. It's addicting. It's tempting. Part of the reason is that we love and fear the guilt of sin. We love our "guilty pleasures" but we fear getting caught because we know that we are guilty. The more we sin the more guilty we become and the guilt destroys us. But sin is a drug and like a drug although it hurts us we always go back for more. We fall in line, we live the lie (Give up give up and feed the machine) It grows inside, nowhere to hide (Give up give up and feed the machine Give up give up and feed the machine) We pretend to live as if we are without sin but in truth we struggle with sin as it constantly tempts us and the temptation grows ever stronger until it is satisfied. As we fall deeper into sin we become more guilty and more afraid of our guilt. Sin wants us to stop trying and just become enslaved to it. They pull you faster the gate is calling And you never fall behind So choose a face you're only calling out You mustn't fall behind I'm unsure about this verse but I think the gate here is the gates of hell. Hmmm... Maybe I'll think of something later. You need another death just to have a life to save You need a master just so you can beg You need a light just because you're so afraid Now bow and learn to be a good slave Sin enslaves us. We become so addicted to our sin that we worship it. The sin we wanted becomes the sin we need. Sin controls us and will destroy us. We try to make sin seem good because we are so caught up in it. Sleep Go back to sleep Go back to sleep Sin leads to death. Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake, up!!! A wake up call to stop sinning. Wake up wake up and kill the machine (Wake up wake up and kill the machine) Sin is death but Jesus is life. Because we have died in sin we must be born again in Jesus who has already taken our sin. We don't have to feed the machine of sin anymore. We can kill it instead. We can stop living in sin and instead living for Jesus. |
Canibus – Poet Laureate II Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I wouldn't consider "Lord of the Rings" to be "mindless stimulation." |
Billy Talent – Diamond On A Landmine Lyrics | 13 years ago |
By the way, I think the line is "I'll test my fate" and not "I'll test my faith". I know I wrote the latter but that's before I realized the line was incorrect. Well anywho the same interpretation I gave still applies. |
Billy Talent – Diamond On A Landmine Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Ok here's what I think... Guy with no backbone got dumped by his controlling and manipulative ex-girlfriend. The girl dated him because he was easy to control and dumped him for the same reasons. In other words he got used. The guy actually realizes this but doesn't care because he feels as if he needs her. The guy is so insecure and so dependent on her that he is desperate to get back together with her even though it will be one sided like before. In the back of his mind, the guy knows that although he idolizes her so much that she's really not worth it. A more detailed analysis... Slapped my face, slammed down the door A dozen roses lay on the floor I saw her friends, and I was told She blocked my number from her cell phone From here it sounds like a guy trying to impress a girl but failing. However later in the song we'll learn that they were already dating. This goes to show that even after however much time he had dated her that he thought rather highly of her. The girl on the other hand doesn't think much of him. The slapping and door slam would sound like the guy was cheating but the rest of the song doesn't sound like that was the case. Instead since the girl thinks the guy is basically worthless she really couldn't care less if the guy's feelings are hurt. Although the guy is obsessed with the girl the girl doesn't want anything more to do with the guy. You said we were meant to be Now this obsession is killing me Until I have a heart attack I'll keep on trying to win you back The guy is trying to rationalize now. The girl probably told him that they were in love or something along those lines but to the girl they were just words. But the guy doesn't want to admit this. Instead he's gonna try to get back together no matter how many times he will fail in doing so. Alone at last I can't wait 'til we're alone at last All I wanted was a second chance, second chance To hold you in my arms at last The guy thinks that if he can get back together with the girl then everything will be great. Forever, forever I'd walk a thousand miles just to tell her, to tell her That our love was still alive And I'll never, I'll never, I'll never let it die Well you better watch your step She's a diamond on a landmine Again the guy is desperate to win the girl back. However the relationship was entirely one sided. The girl never actually did love the guy. See how it says "to tell her that our love was still alive"? Why would he need to tell her that they were still in love (or ever in love)? The guy is obsessive about a girl who probably wouldn't give him the time of day now. Yet in the back of his mind (or perhaps this is a friend telling him this) is that although he idolizes her so much that the truth is that she's isn't actually worth all the pain and suffering. I'm not so sure about this word But she kept calling me insecure I tried to quit but there's no use 'Cause I'm addicted to her abuse This explains why the guy got dumped. He had no backbone. The girl wanted the guy to man up but the guy thought way too highly of her to actually have the guts to wear the pants in the relationship. She's in control of everything I'm just a puppet, she pulls my strings Denying truth, I'll test my faith And keep on playing this wicked game The girl was manipulative and controlling as a girlfriend. The guy doesn't want to admit this and wants to continue on with such an one sided relationship. Put together with the line before it shows that the girl used the guy because he was easy to control. However since he was so easy to control she never actually fell in love with him. It's like that quote from Ferris Buller "She won't respect him, 'cause you can't respect somebody who kisses your ass. It just doesn't work. " The rest of the song is the guy trying to choose between a fantasy of he and his ex being back together and everything being peaches and cream, and the reality that although he loved her she didn't and that trying to pursue her any further will only result in him getting hurt again. |

Ok this is sorta dumb, but I think it is a husband and wife who get no time for romance anymore because of 1. their children and 2. the husband has now lost interest. |

I imagine this song being about a bully or abuser. |

I think this song might be about anti-abortion... |

I agree. Religion isn't just like a routine. Religion is a routine. I also think that was one of the reasons Jesus was against the Religious folk. They were lukewarm hypocrites just going through the motions. |

I still think you (as in anyone) should just read the Bible. You cannot replace it with any other book. You'll only get half of the message. The Bible does seem intimidating at first. I think a lot of us who grew up in a religious family remember the Bible as a REALLY boring book that the priest or pastor would yap about how we need to "be good and give money lest we burn". But really if you read the Bible you'll be surprised how different it at actually is from the so called religious people. I think the Jesus a lot of us learn at most churches is NOT the same Jesus from the Bible. |
Skillet – Best Kept Secret Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think song alludes to the one story in the Bible where Jesus gives sight to the blind man and despite telling the blind man to tell no one of the miracle, the blind man can't help but do so. The singer has "discovered" God and can't help but tell others. |
Skillet – Always The Same Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This is about how everything in this universe is subject to change except one thing-God and his promise. God is the control and everything else is a variable. |
Skillet – Alien Youth Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Does anyone else think this song alludes to the rapture? |
Skillet – Falling Inside the Black Lyrics | 15 years ago |
You know it's funny how some people can get so offended by a song that is or can be religious. But yet somehow, if someone starts singing about raping woman, getting high, or shooting the "pigs" well gee that's just good music, right? It's even funnier when a lot of those same people actually disapprove of those things I wrote. Yeah, I know, there's a bunch of religious folk who do the same thing with mainstream music but even if you think they're wrong to do so with mainstream music it doesn't mean that you're right to do the same with religious music. |
Skillet – Rippin Me Off Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I don't think this song is a message against atheists in general so much as it against people who try to replace God with science. It's a rebellion against the "New Age" philosophy the world is going through. The world is trying to sell what is false for the truth. They're ripping us off. At least that's what I think they're saying. Also nobody is ruining the song by telling you what is already said in the song. |
