This song reminds me of old Coldplay circa Parachutes.

Radiohead – Talk Show Host Lyrics 15 years ago
Gosh, I can't even imagine repeating school without Radiohead. I remember taking OK Computer and The Bends on my personal cd player, and playing the cassette versions in my Oldsmobile on the way to school. I feel old...

Radiohead – Lucky Lyrics 15 years ago
I just have an anecdote about the first time I heard this song. When I first bought this album, I broke out my headphones, laid down on my bed, and closed my eyes. Unfortunately, I hadn't had much sleep the night before, so by the time I got to "Lucky" I was starting to doze off ("No Surprises" sort of has a soporific quality to it, I think, but in a good way). Anyway, my name is Sarah, and when I heard that line half-asleep, it scared the crap out of me and woke me up. I seriously thought for a fraction of a second that Thom Yorke had just spoken to me.

On another note, he should be more careful. There could be a psycho-stalker fan named Sarah out there who'd interpret that literally.

Sarah McLachlan – Fear Lyrics 15 years ago
I think the tonal contrast between the first half and the second is really clever. In the first verse, she talks about "comfort," "promises of a long lost friend," and "newborn child," which are generally positive. Then the next part is about "rape," "trembling," "hunger" and a lack of shelter. I think it shows the spectrum of other feelings associated with love. It can either be this positive, wonderful thing, or it can rip you apart. I think that's what the "fear" really is about.

Radiohead – There There. (The Boney King of Nowhere.) Lyrics 15 years ago
I always assumed this song was a denial of faith. Quite often the faithful, when questioned about why they believe in a higher power they can't see, say they know God exists because they can feel God. Instead, here they're saying "Just because you feel it doesn't mean it's there."

In that context "There's always a siren singing you to shipwreck" could be an analogy to the dangers of faith. And "we're all accidents waiting to happen," a contrast to predestination assigned by a god.

I have no idea if that's actually what it's about, and I could be way off the mark, but that's the first thing I thought when I heard the song.
