Minus the Bear – Fulfill the Dream Lyrics 11 years ago
May I take this seat
the rest of the bar recedes
we talked on traveling back roads overseas
"Girl, a change sounds good to me"
she said,
"Who can find that kind of time?"
---------
I love the bar of silence in the music at "time"
To me it plays into the lyric, it expresses "we got the time right now" :)

Pink Floyd – Brain Damage Lyrics 14 years ago
wow i really like the post. i seem to have always shared a similar view with this lang fellow about how insanity is truly a result of the existential.

as for your views on the album itself, i agree with what your saying. pink floyd are some deep thinkers, as am i, so am i insane because i tend to think outside the box? Its as if waters is encouraging us to feel comfortably mad, to accept that fact we are all insane! we don't know what the hell is going on, we all comprehend abstract thoughts, why are we here? the purpose and meaning of life... everyone thinks about these things... right? waters wants us to drop the front and expand on inner insanity.

i feel this attitude of letting go and exploring the corners of the mind is directly responsible for why this album is one of the greatest artistic creations of the past century.

Pink Floyd – Brain Damage Lyrics 14 years ago
the beauty of the album is its openness to interruption. it means whatever you want it to mean.

as for the final lyric, which actually is "and everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipse by the moon"

i look at it like...
"everything under the sun" is humanity, us, people, earthlings..
"is in tune" we were all rationalized
"but the sun is eclipse by the moon" the moon, to me, in the album, metaphorically represents insanity. we are all insane.

briefly, thats my view, but im most likely not thinking of it the same way as anyone else, once again. open to interruption.

though it sums up the album so beautifully, its hard to imagine any other line would suffice

"dark side of the moon" was phrased to describe the side of the moon earth never sees, its dark only relative to us. truth is tho the sun glimpses all sides of the moon throughout its month long phase cycle, so literally, there is no dark side of the moon

Pink Floyd – Us and Them Lyrics 14 years ago
i really like this comment i found on songfacts.com, i think he hits it on the button...

"Us and them" is the philosophy of life that enables one to hate. This philosophy is one of exclusivity that can never create anything but strife. It is this principal of comparison that allows us to sit on our teeter totter where we find ourselves Up looking down at those below us or Down looking up at those above us. Either way we lose because with comparison we never find a state of equanimity. "Us and them" living is the way of life that ultimately leads to an end known as war. There is no us and them; only we. I think this is what PF was getting at.

Pink Floyd – Us and Them Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree with a few posts I read thus far, stating that this song is about MORE than just war.

I recently saw a DVD on the making of DSOTM. Wright composed the originally for a scene in a movie, where vietnam anti-war protesters were being blunged by police for protesting.

As far as the lyrics, I recall Rogers stating the song had something to do with humanity's capacity of being humane.

with brain damage and eclipse acting as a response to us and them.

i dunno tho, ill have to watch the DVD again to confirm.

i dont know many 12 year olds blowin down, lol. the delivery is a bit childish ill agree with u there, but u gotta think of it in contrast to he previous line
"if i never did shows, than id prolly be a myth"
"if i cared a bout the blogs, than i'd prolly be a jackass"

comparing fame to none. i think of it like the penalty that comes with fame, is the constant judgement and prejudice of the general public. "look at cudi's blog, what a fag." catch my drift?

With Honor – Gun For Hire Lyrics 15 years ago
i mean, with honor lyrics, especially their earlier shit, is all posicore, or positive hardcore. reppin ideals such as integrity, unity, self-esteem, prosperity. rising from self doubt, being who you are as an individual, and so on and so forth. this song certainly fits the trend of this, so i dunno if its necessarily based on the military rather than the stuff said above. but interpret them in ur own way, thats the beauty of analyzing any artistic expression.

anyways, i love with honor, they've really kept my head high when i've needed it the most. and to any up and coming bands- plze... keep singin bout shit that matters.

Pink Floyd – Eclipse Lyrics 15 years ago
this track, being nothing short of incredible, definitely leaves an open ending for one's own interpretation.

in my opinion, the whole album revolves around the everyday things in everyday life that can make anyone go insane. "everything under the sun is in tune," simply states that all of us, and everything we've ever known, are fine, in tune, rationally equipped. This point of view is shared by most everyone in the world with a sane mentality towards our individual everyday lifestyles. The second line, however, brings a twist to this thought by stating "but the sun is eclipsed by the moon." This life of meaningless everyday sanity urges us to ask if this is what life is really about. As much as we accept our meaningless everyday lifestyle, we all (and i believe it has crossed everyone's mind one time or another) still ask the ambiguous philosophical question of "why?" which in conclusion, has the power to driving any man insane. Our expressed sanity are simply fronts for the inner insanity we all share as humans- what the hell is going on?

anyways, an amazing album. the best i've yet to hear, in my opinion.

NOFX – The Decline Lyrics 15 years ago
though its roots are all that rock and roll, punk originated from the idea of nonconforming- standing back from the status quo; trendy america; from government's dominant ideology. i shit u not! try researchin before u throw arrogant opinions in the air. "american hardcore" is a good place to start.

Minus the Bear – Lotus Lyrics 15 years ago
to add one last thought: consider the metaphor between a lotus and the song meaning:

lotus [loh-tuhs]
–noun, plural -tus⋅es.
1. a plant believed to be a jujube or elm, referred to in Greek legend as yielding a fruit that induced a state of dreamy and contented forgetfulness in those who ate it.

Minus the Bear – Lotus Lyrics 15 years ago
This song to me is mtb's radical view on america's political use of social institutions, specifically religion, to carry out their dominant ideology in society. It begins by stating the god represented through traditional American religions doesnt exist, "there are no ghosts ... and there are no angels" and that god is simply a tool used by the government "the man in the blue suit" to carry out their wishes. They explain religion sold out, "the congregation's been sold off" to the man. They argue to stop worrying about tomorrow, as religion thus implies us to do, and look whats happening right now, "What to do about tomorrow ... whatcha gonna do about today man?" The song summarizes its theory by explaining were all blinded by this institution while political power is taking advantage of us without us knowing.

Not tryin to piss anyone off, but i really think thats what they were gettin at.
anyways, thats why mtb singin about girls, drinkin, and cigarettes was a lot cooler than gettin all political and lame.
