Barenaked Ladies – Maybe Not Lyrics 15 years ago
It's definitely about a potential break up. But to put a different spin on it...
Could it be about Page and Robertson themselves? Not a couple (clearly) but the band splitting up? I know they've had a very tumultuous relationship pretty much ever since they were kids, some very big highs as well as some tough lows. My guess is that the trouble that caused the final split has been a long time coming. I can totally picture the two men laying on the floor going back and forth reminiscing to when they literally had nothing.

"Maybe you'll forgive the things that I forgot." Stay.
"Maybe you're forgetting all the times we fought." Split.
"Maybe we should divvy up the things we bought."Split.
"But maybe" Split.
"But maybe not" Stay.

Those heart wrenching "breakups" happen in all kinds of relationships with shared emotional history. They are financially intertwined. They literally grew up together. I imagine the first "pretty soon" section from Page's point of view and the second "pretty soon" from Robertsons.

Wintersleep – Jaws of Life Lyrics 15 years ago
jaws of life is the name of the contraption that cuts through cars to rescue people in accidents. So maybe it has all those other symbolic meanings of status or embraces or what have you, but I think it's describing a car accident. he's seriously hurt and is thinking comforting, perhaps religious (parables) thoughts after an accident waiting to be saved. "there was laughter once, there were pretty songs" could refer to the radio and laughter in the car before the accident. and I think all the "sagging skin" "clotted blood" and "metal shards" stuff is self explanatory.

The Boy Least Likely To – I'm Glad I Hitched My Apple Wagon To Your Star Lyrics 15 years ago
Didn't they both belong to other bands before? I thought they sort of fell together as a band. I see the song as an ode to the unexpected things that come from Plan B. This isn't where they were going, but it's a good place to be, maybe better. It applies to other situations as well. The relationship that you've put all your faith in crashes and burns and yet eventually you find someone else fall in love again.

"But I couldn't help but notice how the little things that used to make us happy make us sad" The things we expect to makes us happy, the things we want aren't always what we need.

Kaiser Chiefs – Born To Be A Dancer Lyrics 15 years ago
He's saying they were not made to be together, she moved away and he was glad, he went to visit and it sounds like she requested him to touch her breasts. When she asks what he's thinking he makes vague references to mandatory sex but he's really thinking he wants to be a dancer. He's totally uninterested in her. It's possible that he could just be trapped in a sham of a relationship and wants freedom.
But it sounds like the characters gay to me. Skam33 is right, the Kaiser Chiefs play around with gender roles and stereotypes.

And "lie back and think of England" wasn't just for virgins. Wives were supposed to too. It was a Victorian statement about how "the act" was apparently painful and unpleasant for women but it was also her marital duty. Basically it means sex as an obligation.

Ben Folds Five – Narcolepsy Lyrics 15 years ago
Cataplexy is a symptom of narcolepsy. When there are triggers like stress, fear and even joy many collapse in seeming unconsciousness. Really they can hear and do know what's going on. And when you have narcolepsy you generally walk around in a daze. Or worse seem perfectly fine until all of a sudden you're so tired you MUST fall asleep right then. Many people with narcolepsy have problems with friends and family members thinking that they're not interested when they doze off. Not to mention the memory problems related.
