The Beatles – The Long and Winding Road Lyrics 15 years ago
Yes, the song appears to be about the Beatles & many things that was going on in the Beatles life at the time must have inspired it.. I cant disagree BUT there is also a much deeper level of understanding in this song.. it is about one's relationship to GOD

I used to listen to it, it made me emotional & i thought it was a love song ( it matched how I felt about frustrating romances) & other times i thought it is a song about some unattainable goal that has a long & winding road to reach it 9it matched how i felt about my career that never got any better or never moved any further)

BUT then ONE DAY it hit me when i was having one of those spiritual ups & downs.. I was literally & desperately crying out to God for help & this song began to play at the same time & oh my God... this was it.. i got what it is all about

IT IS ABOUT THE LONG & WINING ROAD TO GOD & BACK FROM GOD THROUGHOUT ALL OF ETERNITY... this road has no beginning & has no end.. it always is.... You are one with God but then you separate (this separation is only an illusion) when you are born into a new body & then you return to God when you die & become one again... & this keeps going on & going on for eternity.....

when you cry out & suffer is when are under the illusion that you are separate from God & that you are on an endless & tiring road to God but the peace comes in when you realize that in ultimate reality you are never separate from God & you are never on a road to God becuase you are with GOD always & all ways

Here's a clearer explanation

It is a spiritual song.. it could be inspired by many things in the narrators's life but at the deepest level it is very spiritual & it is about anyone who awakens from his hypnotic dream & finds the reality too dark, too disturbing & too disconnected that he wants to reach out & help but everybody is too hypnotized to respond & that will bring about the end of the world (that's what the signs of the prophets is about, the end of the world)

In ultimate reality there is no separation, we are all one but the people living in this hypnotic state are too blind to this & act as if they are separate & so continue to ignore & hurt each other.. & becuase we are all one, when we hurt & ignore another, we really hurt & ignore ourselves... the narrator wanted to wake the people up to realize that put an end to the hate, wars, separation & loneliness in the world because that will bring it to its end & cause its destruction

carabiner86 & Matty added some really good interpretations & they are both quite right

I can also add on Carabiner that the narrator has awakened from the dream of illusion, in this world the illusion is that we are separate when in ultimate reality we are all one... when he was awakened by that stabbing light he realized that he is not among the flock of sheep anymore, he feels extremely alienated & he is trying to reach out to awaken the sheep from its hypnotic sleep but nobody can listen becuase his words do not get through to them.... he is on another plane of existence that it is impossible to relate to each other or communicate. Basically he realizes the oneness but their separation alienates him.. Hoe can i explain that better??

Joe Cocker – Have a Little Faith in Me Lyrics 15 years ago
This also may seem like a romantic love song,& it can be indeed

But for me it isnt, it feels to me as though God is telling me to hang on in there & have a little more faith in him... to rest assured that I am not alone & he is always with me, that even in the darkest of hours when my tears are all i can believe, God is there. God is here to catch my fall, to throw a spark, to whisper to me, to hold me in his unconditionally loving divine arms... God has been loving me unconditionally throughout all eternity so Gd is reminding me to having a little faith in him

That's how i feel it

but to others it could be a mere romantic love song

Joe Cocker – Up Where We Belong Lyrics 15 years ago
This is might easily be interpreted as a romantic love song, like many songs that were interpreted as romantic love songs at the first glance but really arent about that kind of love... This one is about the love, peace, acceptance & connectedness between all humankind.

Life is tough & full of hardships but what will make it better is when there is love we feel for one another & this love will lift us up where we belong, it will transcend all, cure all, it will make miracles... this love will lift us up from the difficult world in which we know... that world of wars, conflict, hate, judgment, prejudice, discrimination, resistance... ll this will be left behind or down under when we love & accpt one another.

Let's not hang on to the past & the look behind us, what happened is over & there is nothing we can do to change it... let's forgive ourselves for hurting others & forgive others for hurting us because time runs out & it'd be a waste to cry over the past... ALL THAT MATTERS IS LIVING IN THE PRESENT MOMENT, IN THE NOW, because that's all we've got & we have a lot to look forward to...

The song is about being one with all of the universe & all of creation... the Creation itself was set in motion by the vibration of Om .. Once John Lennon is in his meditative state of mind with the help of the "OM" mantra... he feels this oneness with the whole universe with all it's joys & sorrows...
