Noir Désir – Le Vent Nous Portera Lyrics 12 years ago
I've been working on this for awhile, and this is the best translation I've found, compiled from several sources, then modified to make the most sense (grammatically and symbolically). I even tried to match it up with the French lyrics so that it can be sung in the same rhythm, though it doesn't rhyme (but come on, it's a translation).

I'm not afraid of the road.
we should enjoy it, taste it,
with all it's meanders, pot holes
There, all will be ok.
the wind will carry us.

your message to ursa major,
as well as the path of our race
and those moments, soft as velvet,
they will all lead to nothing.
the wind will carry them away.

everything will disappear
but the wind will carry us.

the caress as well as the grapeshot,
even the wound that tears us apart.
all the palaces built,
those of yesterday and tomorrow,
the wind will carry them away.

Genetics cramped in shoulderbelts,
the chromosomes in our atmosphere.
the taxis for galaxies
and my flying carpet too,
the wind will carry them away.

everything will disappear
but the wind will carry us.

The fragrance of our perished years,
who comes knocking at your door?
infinite destinies.
We get one but will it stay?
the wind will carry it away.

while the tide is rising,
and each of us counts his expenses,
I collect in the shelter of my shadow
the dust of you
the wind will carry it away

everything will disappear
but the wind will carry us.

Archive – Nothing Else Lyrics 13 years ago
This is an amazing song... I'm surprised it has no comments.

It almost seems like it starts off describing a dark place, as if they're stuck in a shitty situation with a very bleak outlook. But then with the chorus, if you look at is as including the previous line, "We've got to reach a place where the feast never ends" and "a time when darkness belongs to night skies and nothing else". It sounds like she's saying we've gotta kinda hold our head up and press forward until we find a better life, until we find happiness. Dakrness belonging to the night sky and nothign else, I would imagine means basically that our lives aren't filled with darkness. the 'darkness' is all way off in the sky, away from us, not touching or polluting our lives.
tl;dr we're in a hell hole now, but if we hold on and don't give up, everythign will get better.

The Deadly Syndrome – Wolves In The Garden Lyrics 13 years ago
This to me sounds like a song about knowing the end is near, but making the best of it anyway.
"If this is where we had to go
Well then I'm glad we went this way"
He knows that in the end, things just won't work out. "All that's left to see is
What kind of flowers we'll become" basically implies that death is nearing, and their bodies will decay and feed the soil, and flowers will grow on their grave, basically. He seems to know he's gonna die, and maybe his lover also, but puts that in the back of his mind and focuses on the moment. Maybe his love doesn't know they're doomed, and he doesn't tell her so she can truly be happy in their last moments.

If that makes sense.

Rob Dougan – Furious Angels Lyrics 13 years ago
This sounds to me like the type of anguish you get when the one you love breaks all her promises to you, one day simply up and dumping you (for lack of a better phrase). He's in love with her, she means everythign to him, but she just shattered his heart. It broke him. He feels like he's jsut been stabbed and all the life is draining out of him. He's rapidly losing the strength to go on. And yet, he still loves her. And it's conflicting with the rage in his blackened heart, tearing at his soul, screaming to take her down with him.
But that's jsut me :)

The Protomen – The State vs. Thomas Light Lyrics 13 years ago
It isn't (just) Emily who says "Not Guilty" at the end- It's the whole jury. Thomas Light was tried in court and found to be innocent.
I'm pretty sure... It does seem to work better that way, as the next song has the masses on the verge of rioting, demanding his blood. They don't think he's innocent, and they want to see him punished. They think he's getting away.
Anyway, this song isn't too hard to understand. Tom is pretty depressed. He's lost his love, his life is ruined, he has nothing left. He says explicitly in the song that he feels like a dead man, and there's nothing left for him anymore. He's practically hit rock bottom. He doesn't care what happens to him. He almost wants to be sentenced to death so he can go join his wife in the afterlife. I don't think there's too much else in this song... it's Tom's lament.

Thank you very much for posting this. It's good to hear what Thom Yorke himself thinks about this song.

Venetian Snares – Tache Lyrics 14 years ago
These never quite sounded right. I could hear words that have been omitted here, and upon closer inspection, I realized parts of these lyrics are just wrong. So here are the correct ones, taken from Philippe Soupault's poem "Quand on regarde une montre".

chaque heure
m’avancer vers cette falaise
et vers ce grand trou sans fond
je me retourne souvent
et j’aperçois très loin
Le brouillard de ma naissance
Je suis le nomade qui marche la nuit
Et qui attend le jour et l’oubli

Gym Class Heroes – Cupid's Chokehold Lyrics 15 years ago
I think that watching the music video for this song really makes a difference in how the song is interpreted. Reading through the other comments, nobody else really said what I think this song is about, so I though I'd throw in my two cents.

The song starts off talking about how he fell in love with this girl. She cooks him pancakes, gives him alka seltzer, and what-not. He says it's love, but gives somewhat empty examples, and sure enough, it ends up not working out.
At this point, he finds a new girl, and falls in love with her, citing such evidence as "she even got her very own ringtone." That is just about the hollowest excuse for love I've ever heard. Just like the first relationship, this one doesn't work out either.
Then comes the 3rd girl. For this one, the mood of the song changes. He talks about more significant things, and has a lot more to say about her. She seems to mean a lot more to him than the other two girls. Also, he doesn't call it love. INstead of saying something along the lines of "I'm in love" he basically says "I don't care what you call it, but there's something there." The song also slows down, and has a more romantic and serious feel to it, whereas the rest of the song is kinda upbeat and almost playfully sarcastic in ways.
Another thing to note is Cupid. For the first two women, cupid influenced the relationship by getting this guy to fall for the girls. In the third, Cupid didn't get a chance. If you watch the video, Cupid was about to make another attempt at true love, but the guy starts talking to the other girl first, indiciating that this love wasn't forced.
So basically, what I'm trying to say is that this song is about trying to force love. More and more, it seems as if young people enter a relationship, and convince themselves that this is the one. They dedicate themselves completely to that person, and say they found true love, and all that. They don't know what actual love is, and give up everything. People are losing virginity at younger ages, and have sex with more people, because they think they found someone who is worth more than everyone else, and do things they really shouldn't do. Then, because it is just another fling, it ends up falling apart, and then they go their separate ways, and find someone else whot hey fall in love with. This song is about a guy who enters relationships thinkign they're the real deal, but in the end, finds a girl who actually is different. He tries forcing love, and makes a girl out to be more than she really is. It's a warnign to not do that, because it never works out. If you want real love, you have to hold back and let it happen. Be patient, and wait for the right person.
