Thom Yorke – The Axe Lyrics 3 years ago
I'm not sure but I almost think that the axe is a song about artificial intelligence... ?? Perhaps frustration at its application yet dim wittedness, and perhaps even at people's ready acceptance of the stuff it spews out..

Oh my word I love this song... I always imagine this is a story of a family man who becomes famous.... "No more hard luck stories" is my favourite quote from this song...
and My favourite section of the song is "Oh to die of kisses, Ecstasies and charms, Pavements of poets will write that I died, In nine angel's arms"
Lovely

Led Zeppelin – The Ocean Lyrics 9 years ago
Also on "Since I've been loving you" the most famous of squeeky bass pedal... here's what it said on Wikipedia about Since I've been loving you... lol

This was one of the first songs prepared for the Led Zeppelin III album.[1] The song was recorded live in the studio with very little overdubbing. It was reportedly the hardest to record. Audio engineer Terry Manning called it "The best rock guitar solo of all time."John Paul Jones played Hammond organ on the song, using the bass pedals for the bassline.

This recording was done using John Bonham's Ludwig Speed King model 201, the pedal he used for his entire career and which was known as the "Squeak King" because of the excessive squeaking that can be heard on some recordings, especially on this track.

“ The only real problem I can remember encountering was when we were putting the first boxed set together. There was an awfully squeaky bass drum pedal on 'Since I've Been Loving You'. It sounds louder and louder every time I hear it! [laughs]. That was something that was obviously sadly overlooked at the time. ”

Led Zeppelin – That's the Way Lyrics 9 years ago
Thats the exact same interpretation I'd come up with, although I find the song quite sad, it brings a lump to my throat... I think I was the boy next door when I was growing up... much to the annoyance of many of my friends parent back then.. :) (we do grow up... thats the positive message I hear towards the end of the song...)

ABBA – When All Is Said And Done Lyrics 10 years ago
This song was written after the divorce I'm sure I read somewhere... to me its just a great song about being middle aged, divorced but with no bitterness towards the times you've had with the person you've spent the previous years with... The song both looks back and looks forward... a wise song I think.. :)

The Delgados – The Light Before We Land Lyrics 11 years ago
I immediately read these lyrics and thought it was word perfect description of living with recurring bouts of depression or feeling a bit blue, because of mainly the line "When things that once were beautiful are bland"... Its kinda upbeat in that the person when writing is starting to feel normal again and doesn't want the feeling to go, I especially liked the bit about "In truth there is no better place to be than falling out of darkness still to see" but in my mind the writer is aware that despite feeling so very euphoric and happy that he / she is over the last bout they know deep down its only temporary, and wish they could just trap it in this moment and not let go.. just my interpretation...

Radiohead – Little by Little Lyrics 13 years ago
Definately a song about jealousy and paranoia whilst in a long term relationship... If the lyrics are correct as they are, its most certainly the theme that I can sense throughout the song... Listen to it again with that in mind...

Turn to nasty now
The dark cell (The place we go to when paranoid or depressed)
The pillar of my soul (in my case, indeed)
The last one out of the box (The final Idea or paranoid thought thats the straw that breaks the camels back) or as "The one who broke this spell" (Spell perhaps referring to a spell of peace and stability)

Little by little by hook or by crook (Running with the theme of thoughts buidling up by association)
I'm such a tease
And you're such a flirt (Commenting on the personalities of the couple involved - Supporting the Paranoia)
Once you've been hurt
You've been around enough (Speaks for itself)

Little by little by hook or by crook
Never get earnest
Never get judged (This time trying to talk yourself out of the paranoid thoughts.. Ie Innocent until proven guilty)
I'm no idiot
I should look (Anger... sort of saying "Thats it I'm going to check this out for myself... " I.e. Check someones mobile phone or e-mails...)

Your clue on hold, snapped up
Crawling with my love (Being overly nice to overt suspicion of being paranoid)
The last one out of the box
The one that broke the seal

Obligation (this section be someone reminding themselves of how this may have come about, daily life, jobs etc interfering with a couples relationship..??)
Complication
Routines and schedules
Drug and kill you
Kill you

My thoughts anyway... :-) Great song

Beck – Lonesome Tears Lyrics 15 years ago
I agree, just stick to talking about the things you like folks! No one wants to hear how much you Dis-like something!! Its pointless and a complete downer for the rest of us who just want to share our mutual appreciation for great contributions to the world of music!

Beck – Paper Tiger Lyrics 15 years ago
I love this song too, It really is amazingly good, there's a lot of Beck in the song but there's no doubt that
Nigel Godrich was infuencial in the string arrangement for this sublime musical journey!!

The Whole Album is flippin fantastic!!

If you like this sort of music its worth looking at other Nigel Godrich Projects (Radiohead In Rainbows)
and the likes!!

Scott Walker – On Your Own Again Lyrics 15 years ago
In my mind this Song has always been a reflection of how Scott really enjoyed the transition from
being surrounded by people (Or from being in a relationship that was uncomfortable to him)to being left
alone and allowed to be "Himself" again...

Which incidently is Introverted and Deeply Private.

(I especially love the line "Your on your Own Again, And You'r Your Best Again - Thats What you Tell yourself" I can totally relate to that.)

However sometime after (Having seen it through as far as it would go)
he realises that it has left him feeling lonely..

Portishead – Machine Gun Lyrics 15 years ago
There's a lot you could impose on this song, the lyrics are typically Gibbons in style (Wonderfully Criptic) But If I had to put a spin on this, I'd say (Speaking from an experience where the lyrics seem to fit) It is a song about how she is coping with a broken relationship (Who knows what who or when as it could apply to many situations)

If like me your a very private person who likes to be alone (as an emotional safeguard) You'd know the pain and the anger of a failed relationship that you've put a lot of faith into.

"I saw a saviour" (This is the one!)
"I thought I'd see it in the cold light of day" (I totally fell for it - It even seemed so right even in the "cold light of day!")
"But now I realise that I'm only for me" (Seems that I was wrong and the only person I can rely on is Myself)
"If only I could see you return myself to me"
(If you could see how bitter and lonely you've made me)
"And recognise the poison in my heart
There is no other place, no one else I face
The remedy will agree with how I feel" (this bit is like saying if only you would recognise how bitter I am, how focused on this feeling I am, and how the remedy - perhaps gunning the person down with a "machine gun" - agrees with how she feels?

"Here are my front teeth, what more can I say?" (I'm snarling with anger OR I'm still smiling, what more can she say?)
For I am guilty for the voice that I obey
(We make mistakes only because we make desicions based on the information we have at the time.. I.e We listen to out own inner voices and sometimes we simply follow our hearts!)
Too scared to sacrifice the choice chosen for me (Perhaps I should have said no and stayed by myself - but I was too scared to give this opportunity up?)

and then the verse again.. I personally like to think that this is a defiant attack on a situation where you've caught with your guard down... and the only way to retaliate is to get out your Machine Gun!!! RAT A TAT TAT TAT TAT..... mwarghahahahaha

Portishead – Undenied Lyrics 15 years ago
the words in this song really have quite some impact when you've been in a similar situation yourself, Undenied would suggest a positive spin (being a double negative) would it not? then why is it sung so darkly and so menacingly? What did she see behind his eyes! Leaves more questions to anwer doesn't it? Great Lyrics and Great Music...
