John Mayer – New Deep Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I don't know if I'd go as far as "sarcastic," but it's definitely not supposed to be totally sincere. Like ProudesterMonkey said, "fine" and "cool" are probably the least convincing words you could use. Those are the type of words you use when you're NOT ok, but you use them because you really don't want to talk about it. I would think that this is something he tried; you know, trying not to analyze everything because it gets frustrating. Like at the part where he goes: "I know what you'll say 'This won't last longer than the rest of the day' But you're wrong this time" Like he tells people "I'm just going to chill out and not over-think it" and the people who know him are like "Yeah, right, sure John." I guess it's just who he is, with all of his crazy thoughts and whatnot. But then, without them, we wouldn't be enjoying such good music, would we? (side note: I find it funny that we're analyzing a song about analyzing xD) |
John Mellencamp – Jack and Diane Lyrics | 15 years ago |
What a great song. :) I didn't grow up in the time period, but it still seems oddly nostalgic for me. I think that's what the song is mostly about. Enjoying that time before it goes and becomes nostalgia, I guess. |
John Mayer – In Your Atmosphere Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"He says that "the ten and the two is a lonely sight," which means that both of his hands are on the wheel now (@ 10 and 2) whereas when he and the girl were together, they were probably holding hands as he drove." Aahhh... You know, that makes a lot of sense. Being the Californian that I am, I though he was talking about streets (when people say "the 10", I think I-10, and there's a CA-2 as well, toward Santa Monica). But I think the steering wheel thing makes more sense. ^^; However, if he was fully aware of the streets and and 10-and-2...then I am fully impressed at how clever he is. |
John Mayer – In Your Atmosphere (Where The Light Is version) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"Cause I’d die if I saw you Die if I didn’t see you" Man, that's the truth. It's like, either way, you'd go home feeling awful if you went around there, because part of you doesn't want to face that person, and part of you does. Man, this is an amazing song. |
John Mayer – Come Back To Bed Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"But seriously, what girl in her right mind would leave the bed if she were in bed with John Mayer?!?! Haha." LOL! Reminds me of the music video for Clarity, and he's in the back seat of a car and the two girls in the front seats are totally ignoring him! And I remember someone saying something like "You know, if John Mayer was in the back seat of my car, I wouldn't be chatting it up with my gal pal." Haha. On the actual song, I love it. I feel like I shouldn't for some reason, like it's so obviously seductive and I'd feel like I'm being a total fangirl for loving it so much. But it's so smooth and it sounds like a precursor to Continuum (which I adore). So I'll admit it, I've fallen under the song's spell. ;) I especially like this line: "But don't leave me 98.6 degrees of separation from you baby." Clever, clever stuff. |
John Mayer – The Heart of Life Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Someone said this song reminded them of a lullaby, and that was the gist I was getting. It doesn't have to specifically be for a lover; it could be a friend, a family member, whatever. And it's so smooth, and kind of bittersweet, but with more "sweetness" than "bitterness," I guess. ;) This song always makes me feel a little better. |
Beyoncé – If I Were a Boy Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think hectopascal hit the nail on the head. The idea that if she were just a regular boy, she'd do all the things he was doing. But if she could live for one day as a guy, she'd know how to be better because she knows what the other side is like. One thing I like (though I might be over-analyzing) is that she uses the word "boy" for most of it, and the only time "man" is used is in a positive connotation. I think that says quite a bit. Another note: the video for this is awesome. :) Love this song. |
Lupe Fiasco – Superstar Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This is a great song. I love the second verse especially. The idea that the spotlight is so intense and somewhat ridiculous, but that only makes people want it more. |
Keane – Somewhere Only We Know Lyrics | 15 years ago |
First, beautiful song. Second, this song seems very reminiscent to me. Like, he's kind of tired of where he is right now, and would like to go back to that time where he and a friend (or a lover, I guess it could be) used to go and forget about everything. Or something like that. |
Alexi Murdoch – Orange Sky Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is so beautiful! I don't know, something about it seems kind of nostalgic. Like, he's looking back at a time when whoever he's talking about (either actual siblings or people as close as siblings) were still around and close to him. And the fact that he has to dream it means that he's kind of recalling that time when he could just go to those people and say "I need to talk to you. I'm feeling down." And he misses that. ...Or something like that. ^^; |
Coldplay – Parachutes Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love this song. I wish it was longer, though. It definitely reminds me of unrequited love. "he will always be there for that person that hes talking about, he will always be there if they need a "parachute" " Dude, that's a good interpretation! :D I was wondering about the "Parachute" title, and that actually makes a lot of sense. |
The Beatles – Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love how people think it has to be either "The picture Julian drew" or "LSD." Why couldn't it have been inspired by both? You know, primary inspiration from the drawing, maybe a little push from drugs? I really don't know. But I do love this song, no matter the inspiration. :) |
John Mayer – No Such Thing Lyrics | 15 years ago |
You know, when this song first came out, I just thought it was catchy. But during my junior/senior year of high school, I finally listened to it and realized that I could totally relate. I know where I live, the majority was working towards being doctors, business men/women, accountants, etc (and quite a few of them had their careers picked out from birth). Not that there's anything wrong with those professions, but they're certainly not my thing! And so I'd tell people "I'm going to be an art major" and they'd be like "...Oh." So I think it's just about doing what you want to do, despite the "...ohs" you get from people. xD |
Alicia Keys – Lesson Learned Lyrics | 15 years ago |
First, I have to say, two of my favorite artists doing a song together= pure win. "It's called the past, cause I'm getting past And I ain't nothing like I was before. You ought to see me now." THAT is a great line. "I've made msitakes, but I'm stronger for them," basically. And I adore Mayer's backgorund "It's alright." It's like that friend who's always there, even after you do something stupid. Sweet music. :) |
Jason Mraz – Myspace Theme Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Oh, Jason Mraz. xD Crazy dude, but in a good way. Haha. |
Train – Drops of Jupiter Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Man, this song is gorgeous. I think I read that the lead singer was inspired by the death of his mom, and then the song evolved into a love song. "Now that she's back in the atmosphere I'm afraid that she might think of me as plain ol' Jane Told a story about a man who is too afraid to fly so he never did land" ^love that line. Sounds like he's afraid that now that she's "enlightened" she might find him boring or "too safe." It's sweet. |
Jason Mraz – Life Is Wonderful Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love this song. It's very poetic. "it takes no time to fall in love but it takes you years to know what love is" ^Favorite line. I think it's basically just saying life is wonderful because of all the twists and turns it takes. Things balance themselves out. |
Alicia Keys – Prelude To A Kiss Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Such a beautiful song! One of my favorites off "As I Am." Meaning-wise, it sounds very overwhelmed. Like saying that there's something wrong, and she's been trying to handle it all by herself, and she's admitting she needs some guidance. |
John Mayer – My Stupid Mouth Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Like everyone else has said, I can totally relate to this song. Just saying something and the second after I said it, thinking "Ah, crap. Why did I say that?" and wishing so hard you could just take it back! I love the "one more thing" line. That's also something I relate to. Saying, "OK, OK, I'm done, really" and a few seconds later "But can I just say one more thing?" Haha. Great song. Catches the feeling and awkwardness perfectly. |
