I love this song - it's been stuck in my head for the past couple of days.
My thoughts on the song... I think he's saying he's alone - no girl by his side and whatnots in the first verse - in the second he's saying he has no kids - her hasn't made a name for himself - no girl wants to marry him and take his name - then in the third he explains the faint calls he hears - maybe of lovers past? Asking him to come back, stay where he is, and one asking to marry him - but he realizes he doesn't want to be with any of them and it's best to maybe just give up.
I dunno. That's what I got from it. It's great. I love them... Especially LJ. |

The song as it is on the album is great. Seeing it preformed live - is by far the best ever. Jack's guitar solos are always amazing. I've been lucky enough to see it three times - once from front row (shot video, put it on youtube) - there are just no words. |

I love this song so much. I really wish I could say I own a triple decker and got to listen to this on my own turntable, but I didn't. It's quickly become a favorite and heavy in my music rotation.
Maybe Jack will decide to be nice and mass release it to the rest of us. Sigh. Or maybe I just need to start playing the lottery so I can pay someone an outrageous price for a TD. |

unlike artslut, i don't think this song is about a woman at all.
my interpretation of the song is it's a man reflecting on his past - and that he feels as though maybe he's changed? "the little house on Ellis Drive, is where i felt most alive" back then, he was carefree and 'good' - but throughout his life he made bad choices that make him see himself as 'evil' "wasted times - broken dreams - violent colors so obsence" and he's trying to warn others, maybe a younger generation to be careful ("watch what you say, the devil is listening, he's got ears that you wouldn't believe") of your choices because you can easily become consumed / corrupted.
i'm sure i'm completely wrong, but those are my thoughts. this quickly became my favorite song off of the Brothers album. |

wow. first, i can't believe i'm the first to comment on this song... i love the song SO much. it's my favorite from the cd. i love the song - he sounds bitter and jealous after finding out that his girl has gotten with someone else... maybe she left him? but he's trying to tell her - he's not better than me ('what's he got that i ain't got? besides stability? can he drive all night and never stop? well i guess you'll have to wait and see') - but he knows, one day, he'll get over it... but that won't be anytime soon.

as a recommendation - if you ever get the chance... see him (and the fast five) in concert. they are AMAZING. |

I don't know how or who does it but the lyrics need to be fixed. It doesn't say "The most beautiful, yeah the most beautiful thing cause anything else can't compare" - it says the most beautiful, yeah the most beautiful thing aside from everything else God created". Unless I'm insane... But I'm very sure that's what it says. It's my favorite part because I didn't pick it up for a long time - and when I did I decided it was one of the most beautiful lyrics I'd ever heard. |

this song is so powerful. i heard it on xmu (XM 43) and immediately fell in love with it. my favorite line from this song is 'do you know - that every day's the first of the rest of your life' i'm actually thinking about getting that tattooed on my arm. it just means so much to me. |
