Nat King Cole – (I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons Lyrics | 13 years ago |
if i ever think marriage is a great idea, i'd use this as a wedding song |
Radiohead – Karma Police Lyrics | 13 years ago |
for me, this song was never about retribution - and the whole idea of karma happens in the afterlife, it's not about revenge, it's about balance - which plays upon the idea of justice. is an "eye for an eye" a way to live? of course, but not healthy. |
Interpol – Not Even Jail Lyrics | 13 years ago |
this album had a much more positive tone than turn on the bright lights, in sound and lyric... this is a perfect example! |
Kisses – Bermuda Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Going to Bermuda would be like a dream vacation! The Bermuda Triangle, where many have been lost, has been heavily debated as a time warp. |
Vertical Horizon – Everything You Want Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song is about the difference between what you want and need. While there is a line to draw between the two, it's reminds us that the choices we make towards and away from our needs/wants define the rest of our path through life. Go or don't. Also, as an aside, I never liked Christian bands but they were able to relay the message that, sometimes, different people can parallel in thought. |
Lea Salonga – Nandito Ako Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Translated into English? I have wanted to know If I may ask You know that I've loved you for a long time Long enough to wait But you have someone else So don't even notice me But I still want you to know My heart belongs only to you Here, I love you Although my heart lies If you leave her/him Do not worry The person that loves you I am here If I was your love Do not fear Because I am like a slave for you You and nobody else But you have someone else So don't even notice me But I still want you to know My heart belongs only to you Here, I love you Although my heart lies If you leave her/him Do not worry The person that loves you I am here I am here |
The Organ – Brother Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I agree with there being religious references within this song. The first thought that comes to mind is Christian intolerance of homosexuals- that if Christians are "good" and "right" they'll get their Rapture. She compares the persecution of her and her brothers to being under fire during a war, as it takes away from her happiness and feeling of safety. |
Cibo Matto – Beef Jerky Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i think it's an allegorical love song between two horses |
Grizzly Bear – Ready, Able Lyrics | 14 years ago |
their relationship isn't like a duel to see who will fall victim and so he is ready and able... but he is afraid of letting the other know of his past and i always thought he said, "before we go, i want you to know what i did" |
Fine Young Cannibals – She Drives Me Crazy Lyrics | 14 years ago |
are these lyrics right?! i always thought he said: "Everything you say is lies, but to me, it's no surprise What I had for you was true Things go wrong, they always do" which i think would give a whole new meaning to the song! this is definitely one of the first songs i have ever loved growing up! |
Camera Obscura – Return to Send Her Lyrics | 14 years ago |
this surely is one of the cutest and sweetest songs i've ever heard. |
Electrelane – Enter Laughing Lyrics | 14 years ago |
this is my favorite song off of the power out, too! love the instrumental parts! as to the meaning, i think the it's quite literal. to "enter laughing" is a stage direction, and the line that stands out most, that doesn't refer to her own feelings, is "the people keep saying you can't give up your own ways." it becomes the only reason she missed her chance. |
Sneaker Pimps – 6 Underground Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think the album Becoming X is just as it sounds - a story of identity crisis. It's about choosing/not choosing to become an X, which is something objective, oversimplified, variable and not constant. We can choose to bury our real selves under layers of dirt 6 feet underground, or not. |
Vertical Horizon – You're A God Lyrics | 15 years ago |
when someone thinks of their self as a godly and perfect, they think of their self as superior to everyone. he is letting her go because of this. i agree with the sarcastic tone about his attributing her to being a god, because that is how she wants to see herself. the only time he is honest is when he says that there could be "somewhere beyond this." |
Camera Obscura – The Sweetest Thing Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"I laughed at the irony, but like the stupid the irony got lost on me" and "You challenged me to write a love song Here it is, i think i got it wrong ... I focused on the negative The pain was too much of an incentive Always my incentive" I love the guy's vocals at the end, fits in with the song quite well. Great stuff. |
Camera Obscura – French Navy Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"Why would I stand for disappointed looks? I'm fully grown but I'm on tenterhooks with the looks" |
Tricky – Overcome Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i love tricky's beats ... but that's off topic. "not exactly lovers, you're a couple, 'specially when your bodies double" - the relationship is all sex but they seem to always try to overcome the emotional aspect of their relationship; they both don't want to feel like they have a "monopoly" on the other person. |
Tricky – Overcome Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i think she meant it to sound as if it were both words, funk and fuck, like equating sex to a kind of dance between two people |
Rilo Kiley – 85 Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i think this song is about being pregnant and her feeling like she was living a completely different life because of it. and it's been stated before but this song is moving, so beautiful. |
The Velvet Underground – Oh! Sweet Nuthin Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i also agree thebodiesobtained, but i wouldn't call it true happiness. the song's bittersweet, like the title, having nothing can be sweet because you are completely free but it is still depressing to just have nothing. to me the song sounds depressing in general, but there's something oddly sweet sounding in the little guitar solo, no? |
M. Ward – Chinese Translation Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i think the answer to all questions is, you find someone to fall in love with again. |
R.E.M. – The One I Love Lyrics | 15 years ago |
this song is great for it's simple lyrics that can be interpreted both ways, as a love song and a song of hate. the song itself is like an ode to her, it can be a simple prop for him to pass the time with until he returns to her, or the prop can be her, referring to her as someone he used to pass the time with. like it was mentioned before, fire can be extreme passion or extreme hatred, depending on the the listener's mood i suppose! awesome song, i love REM! |
Travis – Love Will Come Through Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i think it's about the difference between waiting for someone to love you and taking the initiative to just go and love someone no matter the consequences. i feel like many people find it easier to wait for someone to love them, they try to be as lovable as they can, but they may never know (the dreaded "what if") unless they try to love someone else instead. we shouldn't "look down the mountain," be scared to love whoever it is we love because no matter what you'll eventually be one step closer to finding the person that will love you back. |
The Rolling Stones – You Can't Always Get What You Want Lyrics | 15 years ago |
it's the other way around, surrogatehobby! what we want isn't always what we need. like for example, he uses that really hot woman with a glass of wine in her hand that every guy wants, but her hands were bloodstained from being so deceptive, as posing as what every man wants when in reality, it's not. also, with the protest, fighting for something might not completely change things into however you want, but it's the feeling of fighting for an idea that changes it into a feeling you need, that you actually did something about it. one of the best rolling stones songs ever |
Jenny Lewis – You Are What You Love Lyrics | 15 years ago |
*not what loves you back |
Jenny Lewis – You Are What You Love Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"you are what you love, not what you love" - there's no sense in waiting/looking for someone that loves you because you'll never get what you really want. you ARE what you decide to love. |
Jenny Lewis – You Are What You Love Lyrics | 15 years ago |
they live in "a house of mirrors," mirroring their fears of the person they. both keep looking for reasons to not love each other, they "avoid" each other. for example, "to you i'm a symbol or a monument, a rite of passage to fulfillment" - this is her fear, that she's just someone he can use. "so pull another rabbit out your hat" - their fears are all an illusion because she concludes that they must really love each other, enjoy each other's company, if they keep calling each other back. |
Stabbing Westward – Save Yourself Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i kind of agree with herefromvenus. i think this songs says that you can't "save" anyone else until you save yourself. we tend to take pity on other people whose lives are "fucked" because our lives are fucked as well. basically, it makes for a very unhealthy relationship. |
Esthero – That Girl Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i think this song is inspirational. she looks around and repeats "look at that girl, i don't belong here" but then she thinks that it's not who she should be, but what she can design herself to be by catching her own vibe |
