Butthole Surfers – The Lord Is a Monkey Lyrics 15 years ago
Very confusing song to say the least.

Part 1
-Ahh, the Lord is a monkey

Thanksgiving's comin on the Fourth of July
In the form of a girl with a needle in her eye
Well she come from out west on a nickel worth of gas
She's got her mind on her money and her dope up her ass
Outside of Phoenix had a gimme, broke down
Burned her crack and bought a rig, she was outta that town-

*A girl sells drugs (heroin?) that mess with the mind so much makes you think it's Thanksgiving during the summer.
*She's traveling across the country to sell drugs she is smuggling in her ass.

Part 2
-Well she was a Hare Krishna in the Ashram Bare
She was sellin Good as God, had her funky ass hair
She put food in my mouth and she threw me in the bed
Where she cut off my balls and she sewed em to my head
Now she's headin back east in a '67 caddy
Got her mind on her money and her dope for her daddy-

Hare Krishna = A Hindu hymn praying to the God Krishna.
Ashram = A Hindu sage who lives in nature.
*So the line "Well she was a Hare Krishna in the Ashram Bare" doesn't really make much since it's saying the girl is a hymn in a sage. Maybe meaning she's a Hindu? That would explain the title somewhat.
*The girl sold lots of drugs. (She was sellin Good as God)
*The girl cut some guys balls off randomly.

Part 3
-Well I met her on the street where she beat me like a fool
Then she got me accepted to an Ivy League school
Well I real did good but it's kickin my ass
I lost 38 pounds and my eye turned to glass
Well she's lookin pretty good first week of July
She's got her dope up her ass and a needle in her eye.-

*The girl beat some guy up and got him high on grade A drugs? (Ivy League school).
*The drugs made the guy lose 38 pounds.
*The girl only comes around once a year? (Well she's lookin pretty good first week of July)

So in short the song talks about a Hindu girl driving her 1967 Cadillac across the country from west to east selling drugs (heroin?) so powerful that it's makes you think it's winter during the summer and cutting people's balls off.

As for the title I think is just reffering to how Hindu's have some (what seems to Westerns) as odd Gods in this case a monkey. In real Hinduism there are some monkey related gods such as Hanuman.

System of a Down – Honey Lyrics 15 years ago
For a while I thought parts of this song where anti-religious but after breaking it down more I found it's just about common problems in typical American marriages where there is a seek for perfection, greed, lose of love.

"Time is always now here forever,
time is always now gone never,
Time is the present?"

Not 100% on this part.
Describing someone who has fallen in love?
Marriage feeling like eternity?

"God is now the ruler of the present,
his son a lesson born of a peasant,"

Now that the person is now married in theory they should be an upstanding religious person in this case a Christian.

"Here, now, forever,
happiness ends at the end of a beautiful tunnel,
now, forever,"

Refers to the ideal happy married life till death.

"Run run run away, to a land far away,
where the hills are green and the water is gray,"

Talks about starting the “perfect” life.

"Maria ran with passion not seen in women,
thanks to the big life and her forceful,
daddy, no longer the man, no matter, "

The wife is a very passionate person because of her tough father and the lots of money she has. Money has changed her.

"due is her freedom for loneliness with the dollar,"

Not 100% on this part.
She is owed freedom from greed?

"no longer the man, no matter
I’ve been poisoned by god,
the devil of money, "

This is taking about greed and the worship of money.

"I will never marry, 'till I'm ready,
to be the perfect man,
mommy I love you. "

The man wants to be a “perfect” man so that he can be the “perfect” husband and that will make him the “perfect” father. Perfect Man = Perfect Husband = Perfect Father.

"Honey the babysitters here,
honey it's 8 o'clock,
honey the babysitter's here [x2]
honey! It’s 8 o'clock [x3]"

This is mocking how married life turns into chores and worries about nothing.

I think the song maybe even telling a story that goes something like this.
1 — Possibly about falling in love.
2 — Now that the people are married they have to be good Christians.
3 — Happy married life till death.
4 — Running off to live the perfect life (American Dream)
5 — The wife is a passionate person because of her tough father and greed.
6 — The wife is stuck in a greedy mindset.
7 — Greed and the worship of money overides the love of God.
8 — The man seeks perfection of himself.
9 — Ends with a loveless marriage.

System of a Down – DDevil Lyrics 15 years ago
After studying these lyrics really hard and reading a number of ideas and theroies about the song I have found it's most likely about the media corrupting people and there minds and is not anti-religious in any way, shape, or form.

As for the title I think it's simply just comes from the fact that the songs on the first record are on DDevil music (check the booklet of the CD if don't know what I'm talking about).

First off the reason I think the song is about the media is it goes along with the liner notes about the song, "For those that control the central nervous system, control society, and the world." Or in other words who ever controls people's mind control the world.

Also before I start I won't lie I did jack some people's ideas. I did this because I agree with them so if you see a idea you heard before that be the reason why.

"Plagiarized existence exist,
Among the writers of the word,
Shake your spear at Shakespeare,"

People copying people they see in the media.

"Loud and noisy,
Strong refrigerators,
Gaining independence,"

Noisy People or the TV is loud (such as Politicians) , Tough people, and breaking free of these people and images.
People such as Politicians often yell during debates on TV. The media often promotes being tough as a way of being a “true” man. System is saying think freely.

"Stupid people do stupid things,
Smart people outsmart each other,
Then themselves,"

The stupid people are the people who buy anything the media says is true and the smart people are Politicians and elitists. (Not 100% on the smart people)

"Take me down there,"
-To hell
"Photographic relapse,"
-Hell looks just like Earth
"People feeding frenzy,"
-Chaos of hell
"The devil is so lovely,"
-The Devil is either a beloved world leader and/or media personality.

"My blue moon rivets in exits,
Forewarned customary spirits,
By myself"

The end is the only part I haven't figured out yet.

Minor Threat – Filler Lyrics 15 years ago
If you break it down it's rather easy to understand.

Someone has made a big change in there everyday life. The person says they changed due to there religion. Other person claims that a girl changed you. The person is denying there change. The person can be easily changed by others.

It's like a conversation.

1: You have changed a lot.
2: Well it's my faith.
1: No it’s not what's with that girl you met?
2: I'm in love her.
1: No your not your just following her orders. Since you can be changed easily. You got all religious (when you don't even believe it) and stuff and you changed (negatively).

It's more or less about using religion/love as a reason to falsely feel happy.

Tool – Opiate Lyrics 15 years ago
First off I like to say I am a religious person. I mostly agree with Islam but have not become a full Muslim yet but I won't go too in detail about that.

If I can just point something out guessing this song was written in 1990 when Opiate first came out Maynard would have only been 26 years old....he's 44 now. I think that the biggest change from album to album (lyric wise) would have been Opiate to Undertow since Opiate has some songs that on the surface sound fairly opinionated. Such as "Jerk-Off" and "Opiate” where Undertow’s songs don’t seem to be so opinionated.

Anyhow as a religious person I'm not going to just think it's evil and sell my CD of Opiate. So I looked into the song and what it really means. I think on the surface it is a sort-of shock rock song against Jesus/Christians. And by the surface I mean if you just had it on and listen to the song you could get that idea. You can see this by seeing how many Atheist think it’s a Atheist song. IT'S NOT A ATHEIST SONG SO STOP SAYING THAT IT IS! It’s like when some Atheist claim John Lennon’s “Imagine” is Atheist….IT’S NOT! Tool is a religious band, I have read things about all the members being religious in some form on another. I forget what Maynard's mom was and raised him with but it was something religious….something “unorthodox” but religious.

Anyhow the song uses Jesus/Christians as a example since in part most people know about Jesus/Christians and that Christians are one of the most corrupted of the major world beliefs. Example being a very good amount of Christians wear a cross around there neck and are hardly religious at all. I have scene pornstars where crosses while there having sex. Just shows you how much a fashion statement a cross CAN BE. Not bashing Christians just saying there are people out there who wear a cross as a fashion statement.

I think it's in part a anti-organized religion song. Since it's all about "Thinking for yourself" and not listening to the religious elite for your religious answers.

But going from quotes and whatnot from Maynard himself (best source) gave his main claims are it's about the religious elite and how they are not true followers and corrupt the true teachings of the religion. For example a lot of Christian priest talk about how God will fix there money problems and stuff like that. I’m not bashing Christians (I’ve scene it) just saying there are priests and what not who take a principle and twist it a little. Jesus/the Christian view God don’t care about your money problems or whatever.

I think it's just bad writing is why I think it sounds Atheist. I think the bands writing got better with time.
