Flyleaf – Set Apart This Dream Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I noticed too. I looked up the lyrics, and this is what I found. It sounds right to me: You didn't come this far Just to be plundered here Towers of refuge, your strength Sleep in this haven The King holds your favor With love much greater than you dream |
Flyleaf – Chasm Lyrics | 14 years ago |
An animal licks its wounds to clean and heal itself. So, after reading the stanza that line is in, maybe she is saying that after turning away from darkness, a person shouldn't just forget the past and act like (s)he never did anything wrong. This would be like spitting in God's face--like telling him that one's past shortcomings are no big deal. |
Flyleaf – Missing Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Stanzas 1 and 3 suddenly make sense. |
Flyleaf – Tiny Heart Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think this song is pretty simple: The person is lost, and God is waiting and hoping (s)he will turn to Him before it's too late. |
Flyleaf – This Close Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This is another of my favorites on the album. I think it's about a person who has found God imagining/dreaming that (s)he is living life in darkness again. The person is trying to live life to the fullest with no regrets. Then (s)he observes someone who has found God and realizes that his/her life has been empty without God, and (s)he feels closer than ever before to being alive like the other person is. |
Flyleaf – The Kind Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think the song is a metaphor that likens sexual immorality to the love of money ("It's like being in love"). Both lead to death (“You ignore the fate of the players/ Who both end up dead”). The person falls victim to the love of money, becoming a slave to it, in the first half of the song. Then the person turns from it in the latter half and turns to God. “The Kind” refers to the kind of love. |
Flyleaf – Missing Lyrics | 14 years ago |
After reading the journal entry in the album booklet, I think this song is about how people try to find their love on Earth and feel empty and lost when they cannot find it, because it is God's love that they are missing and longing for. |
Flyleaf – Circle Lyrics | 14 years ago |
From the lyrics and reading the CD booklet, I think this song is about how Jesus saved mankind and mankind crucified Him (and has been recrucifying him over and over ever since then). Some see the wrong they have done and turn towards Jesus, realizing that His words are truth and that He truly loves them. The cycle (circle) of people crucifying/forsaking Jesus and then turning to, and believing in, Him continues through time. |
Flyleaf – Chasm Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Great explanation by ftyd24 and interpretation by ShellyBelly93. I love every song on ‘Memento Mori’, but this is one of my favorites. With regards to the journal entry in the booklet that comes with the album, this song is also a call to those who walk in sin and death to see the truth and turn towards God. Those who walk in the dark are thirsty for God, for truth. It sounds like Lacey is saying that she was in the dark and is warning others to step into the light like she did and not drag anyone into the dark. While one is living on earth, there is a chasm between Earth and Hell. If one dies in the darkness, the chasm will be fixed (sealed), the person will go to Hell, and there will be no escaping it. The life-giving water (Jesus, truth, etc.) can save a person and quench his/her thirst. |
Flyleaf – Beautiful Bride Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I basically agree with everything said above. This song is a call to Christians of all kinds and from all places to unite and be strong; to not waste a moment in spreading Christ’s teachings to the rest of the world. Life is short, we are all mortal, and there is no time to be fighting one another or letting people’s lives slip by without Christ in them. The song is more about how things should be than how they are. |
Flyleaf – Again (Album version) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
After reading this and the part of the story in the booklet for this song, I interpret some parts of the song a little differently: Chorus: When the person fails at changing the world, (s)he feels defeated and spent. The person will only feel better by surrendering this effort and watching God do the work as only He can do. God wants to let the person know that He loves him/her. He wants the person to have faith that He will take care of things. “Right where I want you to be again”, means that the person is making that transition to trusting that God will take care of things. |
Switchfoot – Stars Lyrics | 14 years ago |
sorry, meant to say 'thought of that before' |
The Classic Crime – We All Look Elsewhere Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I don't know anything about drugs, but that makes a lot of sense. |
The Classic Crime – We All Look Elsewhere Lyrics | 14 years ago |
That line makes a lot more sense now. |
The Classic Crime – Gravedigging Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think topherc3103 and yeahthatgirl are on the right track. Here's my interpretation: "I've been sitting...headlights": A suicide lane is a lane inbetween two other lanes that allows vehicles in those two outside lanes to turn left without blocking traffic. You're not supposed to drive in them for any length of time, as they are just for turning left. So, it sounds like he wants to turn away from something. He is waiting for someone to give him a signal that he can (or should?) turn (when a car flashes its lights, the person is saying you can go). In the next stanza, it sounds like he has been struggling with whether or not to turn and make that change in his life. He has finally reached the moment where he is ready to do it though. In the third stanza, he is saying that he is ready to lay to rest his old ways. Star-crossed is indeed from Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet", and means that something was destined to happen. So I think the speaker is saying that turning from his old ways was meant to be. So overall, I think the song is about making the decision to change one's life in some way. |
The Classic Crime – Just a Man Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song makes a lot more sense to me now that you've said that (and thanks to some of the posts below as well). |
The Classic Crime – Salt in the Snow Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Great job analyzing this one, yesterdayze. The only part of this song I interpreted differently was the chorus. My interpretation: The speaker has heard that things will get better, despite how they have been--though he currently feels like he's broken (or reduced to a puddle) and has been deserted. Things may look bad now, but there is hope for a better tomorrow. |
The Classic Crime – The End Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think YoureFired2011 has a good interpretation. I think the speaker is saying that his friends shouldn't put all the blame on him for letting them down or ruining their friendship. He is only human, and they should have realized that he could have failed them. I think "How could you do this to all your believers? How could you do this to all of your friends? You know this is the end!" is his friends telling him how they feel about what he did. The last couple of lines mean that the friendship is over. Overall, the song is about how everyone is human and will let you down sometimes, so you shouldn't put people on pedestals. |
Flyleaf – Again (Album version) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think that this song is about how much of a struggle it can be to keep one's faith in God in this world. God loves our efforts to do so and is there to help us when it becomes hard. stanza 1: God loves it when the person is able to identify what is wrong and be disheartened by it. He loves it when the person prays these wrongs will be made right. On the other hand, He also loves it when the person lives as though the outcome of things depends on him/her. Chorus: The person has once again been left broken. The only thing that will fix him/her is letting God take over and not trying to fix everything by him/herself. God loves the person and wants him/her to see the truth and follow Him again. stanza 2: God loves that the person seeks His truth rather than what the world tells the person. He loves that the person stands strong and takes the things that others say while believing in God in the end (as hard as it may be). stanza 3: It is not important that others do not understand the person. (S)he can find peace in knowing that God does understand. I think the line "right where I want you to be again" is saying that God recognizes that keeping faith in Him can be a struggle, but He loves that the person keeps coming back to Him. |
Switchfoot – The Loser Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The thought of Jon doing Reggae is too funny : ). I love that quote. |
Switchfoot – Stars Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Your comment about not being able to fix ourselves on our own and relying on God instead makes a lot of sense for the lines "I've been thinking about the meaning of resistance Of a hope beyond my own And suddenly the infinite and penitent begin to look like home" I hadn't that of that before. |
Switchfoot – Living Is Simple Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I never picked that up, but it makes perfect sense when followed by the next two lines. |
Red – Mystery of You Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Yes, well said. I agree. I meant to say in the first line "Maybe it's about the mysterious way in which God can seem to show up and leave...". I didn't mean to imply that He actually does so. Good catch. Now that you drew that point out, the first line of the song doesn't match up with my interpretation...hmm... |
Switchfoot – Dirty Second Hands Lyrics | 15 years ago |
thanks for those |
Switchfoot – Adding To The Noise Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think the song basically talks about how we've complicated everything so much (the 'noise': stereos, videos, radios, genetic engineering, etc.) rather than just taking it slow and easy and sticking to the basics of life. |
Submersed – I Feel The Change Lyrics | 15 years ago |
It sounds like he's afraid to let a woman know that he has loved her for a long time, but he's reached a point where he can't help doing so. |
Submersed – An Artist Prayer Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think this song is expressing the hope that the work done by [musical] artists (including themselves) is remembered through future artists' work and not just a passing phase ("Oh will...die again?"). |
Pillar – Rewind Lyrics | 15 years ago |
It's hard to tell just from reading the lyrics if 'You'/'you' is God or a person. I think it says in the Bible though that God cannot be hurt. Plus, like someone else said, a person can't really make God wait. |
Pillar – Last Goodbye Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think one of the band members said on the accompanying DVD that this was written after someone close to one of the band members (or one of their friend's friends or something) died. So, it's about showing people that we love them, because we never know when it's our time (or theirs) to go. |
Pillar – Hypnotized Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think this song is about not looking the other way--that we know better than to do what we have been doing and should do better. It's never too late to do the right thing. |
Relient K – Forgiven Lyrics | 15 years ago |
It was long, but worth reading. A little white space can make reading long passages easier. I think your second theory on "Sometimes we live for no one but ourselves" is right. As for "And what we've been striving for Has turned into nothing more Than bodies limp on the floor Victims of falling short", I think he's saying that all the arguing over who is to blame and whatnot has reduced their relationship to condemning each other for their shortcomings. He's saying that they are figuratively killing each other over these shortcomings. |
Relient K – Bite My Tongue Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think he is saying that he needs to watch what he says and let his words come more from God rather than himself. |
Alter Bridge – Save Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Oh, ok. Thanks. I'll have to listen to it. I think Elektra is a movie about some girl with hero-like abilities. |
Red – Mystery of You Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Maybe it's about the mysterious way in which God can show up and leave in someone's life. That is, sometimes it seems like God is there for you and blessing you, while other times (when life is dark) it seems like God has almost abandoned you. |
Red – Fight Inside Lyrics | 15 years ago |
That's an interesting interpretation, ShepherdEyeshine. Good job. I thought the song was referring to a person's battle with temptation. Whatever is tempting the person is an "enemy" when the person is trying to avoid it and a "friend" when the person gives into it. It is "familiar" because the person has given into it many times before. It's a "beginning" because it tempts the person into starting something he/she knows he/she shouldn't do and an "end" because it hurts the person in some way when the person gives into it. "Knowing truth, whispering lies" could mean that the person knows better than to give into whatever tempts him/her, but the person tells him/herself that it's ok to give into it. If you're following me, the rest of it should make sense. Great lyrics. |
Fastball – Fire Escape Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Good comments, especially from missa809. I never thought about the fire escape part like that. I think he's also saying that he's unsure of many things in his life at that point and wants to take things slow before committing to anything. |
Creed – Torn Lyrics | 15 years ago |
In a nutshell, I think this song is about being torn between following religious teachings and what the world tells you. |
Creed – Sister Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Well put, bobbyramsey. |
Creed – Ode Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The song is called Ode, so it seems like the song is an ode to Jesus. I think it's from the point of view of dying on the cross as Jesus did. I think marko26 has a good interpretation as well. |
Creed – Illusion Lyrics | 15 years ago |
First, the lyrics booklet does say it's "is anybody there?", but I have to agree with Michael, it sounds like, "does anybody care?". This actually happens a lot in CD booklets, but anyway.. I think the song is about being in a dark place (look at most of the lyrics and listen to the tone of the song) for days on end ("This life remains the same") and changing what one believes until one doesn't know what to believe anymore ("My constitution keeps changing/'Til it slips away"). It's also about falsely believing things will change for the better and needing to initiate the change on one's own ("I try...life goes on"). The person questions whether any "happiness" felt in this state is only an illusion of happiness. The other interpretations and comments make sense too. |
Alter Bridge – White Knuckles Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Definitely one of my favorite Alter Bridge songs and one of the most intense songs I've ever heard. It's challenging people who feel lost, dead, abused, alone, empty, damned, cursed, etc. to find a strength inside themselves if they are to survive in this world. I think the purpose of the intensity of the music is to empower such people. As for this part: "They tell you what you should be Sell you the plastic dream Opinions are all provided But nothing is what it seems I dare you take control ’Cause empty are hands and Bruised are the souls Of those who show no resistance Those who are weak below", I think this is saying that the world tries to mold us into the people it wants and that we have to find the strength within ourselves to be who we want to be. Otherwise, we will fall to the world, if that makes sense. |
Alter Bridge – Coming Home Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Here's my attempt: Verse 1: The singer realizes that someone at home has been right all these years about something. Verse 2: Aspiring stars (musical artists, in particular) eventually fall, and the singer needs to return home before it's too late and he is not welcomed there any more. Verse 3: The singer is afraid of how things at home may have changed, since he has been gone so long. Verse 4: The singer realizes that all he truly wanted was his family/home and not being a famous/wealthy/etc. superstar. The rest of the song is fairly self-explanatory, I think. In general, I think the song says that we shouldn't take our homes/families for granted, because they will be there for us in the future when other things aren't: "We come to find What we take for granted Keeps us alive in the end So don't let time Leave you empty handed. Reach out tonight and make amends" |
Alter Bridge – Break Me Down Lyrics | 15 years ago |
It sounds like the singer is finally telling someone that he wants out of a bad relationship. After the chorus is repeated for the first time, it sounds like the singer realizes the other person has been dragging him down, but he should just forgive the person and move on with his life without him/her. |
Alter Bridge – Find The Real Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I have to agree with alexcalligator and therambler07 on this one. |
Alter Bridge – We Don't Care At All Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Where is this song from anyway? |
Alter Bridge – Ties That Bind Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Great way to start off an excellent album. I thought it was about doing whatever it takes to break free from a manipulative/abusive/controlling person. The thing about Wind-Up makes sense though. |
Alter Bridge – Save Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Where/what is this song from anyway? |
Alter Bridge – Rise Today Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song seems like the "Open Your Eyes" of Blackbird. |
Alter Bridge – New Way To Live Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I agree with zohaib and feel bad for anyone unfortunate enough to miss the Best Buy version of Blackbird with this song and The Damage Done on it. |
Alter Bridge – Come To Life Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Yeah, I've read somewhere about what B2J posted (in a CD review I think). Definitely glad that they didn't include that line--it would have ruined the song/made it sound cheesy. I love Alter Bridge, but I really don't get why so many people hate Creed. |
