Props to you for referencing the Smiths. Yeah, I'd have to agree with this.

City and Colour – Against the Grain Lyrics 13 years ago
Like John Mayer's "Heart of Life," this is a pick-up song.

It's prettymuch saying that when you're depressed, life isn't as far away as you think it is.
You don't need to "reach for the stars,/ when life becomes so dark," all you need to do is follow your heart.
Then he gives a few more examples of how life gets tough, but all you need to do is listen to your heart.

Mumford & Sons – I Gave You All Lyrics 13 years ago
This song sounds almost like a comment on the Irish War of Independence.

"Rip the earth in two with your mind"
This sounds like remembering the war, the explosions, the carnage.
"Seal the urge which ensues with brass wires"
The urge being to kill, and making a bomb or destructive weapon out of it.
"I never meant you any harm
But your tears feel warm as they fall on my forearm"
Having a family member or good friend killed in the explosion.

"But close my eyes for a while
Force from the world a patient smile"
Remembering the incident every time one sits down to think.

"How can you say that your truth is better than ours?"
Catholicism vs. Protestantism in a nutshell.
"Shoulder to shoulder, now brother, we carry no arms"
This makes me think of a funeral precession and how both sides are feeling the pain of the war.
"The blind man sleeps in the doorway, his home"
He sleeps in the doorway because his house was destroyed, and he can't go anywhere else because he's a casualty of the war.
"If only I had an enemy bigger than my apathy I could have won"
That feeling after a big event when you know you could have done something better like catch that ball or work harder in school. It's the same thing here, where he wishes he could have done something to save lives.

"But I gave you all"
Tried his best to save someone. Fought for his side.

"But you rip it from my hands
And you swear it's all gone
And you rip out all I have
Just to say that you've won"
What war is: taking something from someone else to satisfy your own goals. His life was ripped from him just because the other side wanted to win, and can say that they won.

"Well now you've won"
He just gives up.

Feel free to add your own ideas as a reply.

The Beatles – Happiness Is a Warm Gun Lyrics 15 years ago
dayday469 your crazy.
You do realize songs can have more than one interpretation, right?
That's what makes music music, it hold different sentimental value for everyone.

Besides, DirtyDan has much more logical and clear thinking than you.
"The first part is cuz John Lennon is an acid addict, and the second part refers back to it."
That could be true, but i still hold that its either about a wife being cheated on and getting back at her husband [makes the most sense at the moment] or suicide.
And now that I think about it, there's really no way it can be suicide.

Why do you have to be such a dick about their opinion?
That "shit" dirty dan "made up" is really good, and he provides a solid basis for each part.
You just state the obvious with no real analysis except John Lennon is a druggie.
Besides, even if you were right, I'm pretty sure John Lennon would not sit there shaking his head and saying "nope nope nope, uh-uh, your totally wrong" if you told him this.
He might be all like, "thats not what i was getting at, but i totally see where your coming from" or something, but not a fucking dick like you are.

Run Kid Run – This Day Of Change Lyrics 15 years ago
The first stanza is about how the word "Love" or the phrase "I Love You" is changed by the perception of god.
Then it goes on to say how got found him and his faith is getting stronger.
The chorus is talking about how god has all these promises and he is finding them as he goes along.
"Today's the day I'm coming around
No more wasting time
On things that won't be found at all" means he is going to commit today, not another day, and he's gonna stop wasting his time on other things that turn out to be nothing.
After, its about how he heard all these story's of people finding god and everything, then him finding out for himself what its like to find him.
I think after, how he's talking about the treasures, he means that he would trade in all the treasures in the world for god, and how his life is filled with a new hope.
Chorus again.
He loses himself in god, and he likes it so he just wants to keep holding on.

Then he comes around :D

That's what I think this song means.
You people agree?

Run Kid Run – Wake Up, Get Up Lyrics 15 years ago
"We learned to change but did we change to learn" means that everyone knows how to change, how to make themselves different, but did we do it to learn?

Did we make ourselves different to fit in, or to better ourselves by learning from the changes?

That make sense now?
