Bob Dylan – Like a Rolling Stone Lyrics 14 years ago
I like this interpretation. I think on the surface one can interpret the lyrics in many different ways, but this one seems to hit the nail on the head for me.

Roy Orbison – Running Scared Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm really surprised nobody has commented on this song. Such an amazing song, story, and performance by Orbison.

About a guy who runs off with a girl who has a boyfriend. The narrator's scared that the boyfriend will show up and she'll run back off with him. The boyfriend shows up, and the girl chooses the narrator.

The way it's phrased though, and the way it's worded makes me identify with the narrator as opposed to the boyfriend, and makes turns the narrator into an underdog character worth liking even though he's running off with someone else's girl. You can tell that the narrator believes in true love with this girl rather than it just being an illicit affair. The narrator suffers from an insecurity love can bring on, whereas the boyfriend seems like a douchebag. The narrator doesn't really think the girl will choose him, but she does, and the ecstatic, melodramatic performance Orbison gives really makes it a joyous moment in the song.

The Flaming Lips – Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt. 1 Lyrics 14 years ago
What does the robotic voice say after "Those evil natured robots"?

My friend said it sounded like "I drive an SUV," and I can't get that out of my head. I remember Drozd singing something different when I saw them perform it live, but I can't for the life of me remember either what he sang or figure out what the line actually is.

Could the "Gunpowder and gelatine, dynamite with a laser beam" part refer to cocaine and/or champagne? I thought it could be either that or make up, or both.

uhhh...Freddie Mercury didn't write this song in the first place.

Even though he was gay, and even though he had a girlfriend.

Tom Petty – The Waiting Lyrics 14 years ago
To me this song applies to my life right now. I just met this really fantastic girl, and we hit it off really really well, I mean, scarily well. I'm just waiting to see if it's going to turn out the way I want it to or if it's just going to be only one of those fantastic nights that never happen again. But waiting, anticipating anything that could be potentially wonderful is difficult, and is the hardest part.

The Flaming Lips – Evil Lyrics 14 years ago
Scary.

The music is so eerie and beautiful that the meaning suggests that he is yearning to warn someone that people in the now present are evil and he regrets not being able to have the ability to warn that person. He could be referring to himself in the third person, too, as though the "you" is himself in the past, and he wishes he could warn himself about evil people on the horizon that he got mixed up in the recent past.

The Flaming Lips – I Can Be a Frog Lyrics 14 years ago

Reminds me of Devendra Banhart's "Little Yellow Spider." I love the childish silliness of both songs.

It sounds like either his mother or some other woman he admires tells him that he can be anything in creation and at the end of the song he admires her because she can be all those things and anything else she wants to be. I agree with the above poster, that childhood imagination and getting in touch with that allows someone to become anything they want to become.

a9xe6oz - I like your interpretation. I just watched "The Fearless Freaks" and along with "The Spiderbite Song" I think some of Wayne's other lyrics might have to do with Drozd's heroin use.

But this song also really gets to me on another level. I also agree with the interpretation that this song is about deciding when to take action and when not to, and that the line between the two might not be that clear cut. It has to do with taking on responsibilities instead of letting the world take everything from you, like relationships, band members, etc., and that fighting for these things sometimes requires force and assertion.

Sublime – Boss DJ Lyrics 14 years ago
another correction:

"So Mr. DJ don't change the music"

Should be

"So Mr. DJ don't stop the music"

The lyrics above also don't include

"Nowadays the songs on the radio all, all drive me crazy"

at the end of the song.

I think it's about how much he loves music, like it's some kind of drug

Lyric correction:

"Upon the microphone like a boss DJ
When I would walk upon the sea like it was dry land
The Boss DJ ain't nothing but a man"

Should be:

"Upon the microphone like a boss DJ
But I won't walk up upon the sea like it was dry land
The Boss DJ ain't nothing but a man"

I think the last lines, "Maybe we'll never die I'll just keep growing younger with you..." etc. has a lot to do with the last song on the album "The Repudiated Immortals" and the theme of the album in general. There seem to be a lot of references to immortality, soul mates (or "twins), eternity, and being with another person forever throughout the whole album if you look at the titles and lyrics.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah – Emily Jean Stock Lyrics 14 years ago
I think the person in this song is asking a girl to run off with him and have kids, and basically saying that it's kinda ridiculous to do anything otherwise. He's asking her not to think about or have doubts about something that's so obvious and clear to him, and that he has something to offer her.

The Rolling Stones – Out Of Tears Lyrics 15 years ago
I like how he says he's a whisper and a shadow but he still gets up to sing. It's like he feels hollow inside, but he's still doing his business as though he's just going through the motions.

Fergie – Finally Lyrics 15 years ago
I agree with the above. It's about a girl who's insecure, selfish, and afraid to love. Then she finds out, after soul searching, that what she had was good for her all along and now she's in a better place to love her man.

This and "Big Girls Don't Cry" remind me of my ex-girlfriend who left for Indiana pretty recently. She was having a bad time in LA, but once she got there she kept telling me she missed me. Now she's there working stuff out for herself.

I really really like this song. It's catchy as hell. The structure reminds me of some updated 1950's song, especially because of the monologue.
