i agree with Zombie Prostitute in that it's about an affair, but let me just pretend he was married, so we can use wife and mistress. i think he fell out of love with his wife, and used this angel in diguise to remind him what love is, what life is about. however, i think his lover doesn't really care about him, makes his heart go blind--which is a bad thing. he knows its wrong to cheat on his wife, but she tears away his conscience, as if she being an angel justifies his actions. |

to me, this song is about coming out to your parents and the world. "If i could change your mind i'd really love to break your heart" that part--i think--means that the person hurting him--he cared for them before, but now they just hurt him and they hate him and the feeling's perfectly mutual. so he'd like to change their mind, have them love him again, so that he could break their heart like they did to him. "these are things i could do without" that part is so beautiful, i don't really understadn it, but i think he's saying, all the things he'll lose the in the process of "shouting", saying what he thinks, speaking his mind, are all things he can do without; after all, if someone was really important to him, they'd love him enough not to turn their back on him. "in violent times you shouldn't have to sell your soul" maybe an abusive parent? viloent times, but he shouldn't have to be someone he's not because of it. "in black.... ought to know" in simple terms, they should know how you feel, or at least try to understand. "those one...working boy" thoose simple minded people who think gay kids all become rent boys, cuz 'society' won't accept them or something. "kiss them goodbye" you shouldn't have to put up with that crap. "they gave...to tell the tale" i think this is from parents' point of view, or at least quoteing it, like they're always saying, "I GAVE BIRHT TO YOU" and like, "YOU OWE ME EVERYTHING" sort of arguement. ad in return they're gving them hell, making them decide what to do with you. that's my take. |

the first verse is talking about, y'know, the world and stuff, like how it is. "welcome to your life"--it's your life, so you should know how it is, but 'welcome', as in, you've never been here before, it's changed so much, you're a stranger in your own land. "turn you back on mother nature"--that's talking about how people in the world have turned their back on love and nature and god, i suppose, as well, since those tihngs came from him. because now everyone's in love with money and power and there's a quote by jimi hendrix that i can't remember that this reminds me of. "there's a room where the light won't find you"--the light is these things taking over in the world, i think, anyway, and everyone's inside this room. "holding hands while the walls come tumbling down"--everyone needs someone by their side, and he's saying to have someone with you, hold their hands so you know they're real, because they need you too, especially when the walls come tumbling down, because you won't know if you're gonna make it. "When they do i'll be right behind you"--same thing, someone will be there with you. anyhow, i didn't know they were gay, wikipedia said both of them are married--to women, so.... i first heard this in sky high, lol. i love that movie, it's so stupid. but this song has nothing to do with it. o.O |

er... nobody kill me please, but i actually don't hate this cover, and the original is actually the only kinks song i know of, but i think i'll start listening to their stuff before i say anything like "omg they're the greatest, can't believe mcfly slaughtered them"; 'specially since, i don't get why people are saying they ruined it, it sounds prety mcuh the same. but it woulda been better without busted. busted isn't any good at covers. also, for you mcfly/busted haters, count your blessings. imagine if it were the jonas brothers covering this song. |

wow, this song is so special to me, but it's always been so hard to interpret. in my opinion, that is. because, in the first verse and chorus, it sounds quite obviously that this person's hurting him and chad makes it sound... not emo at all, which i love about him. but then in the second have of the second verse, where he says "living with me must have damn near killed you" it confused me because there he sounds like it's him hurting the other person. but thank you sooo much to bluboy31 for explaining that it was sarcasm. but still, the "it's not like you to say sorry" makes it sound like she apologizes and therefore maybe she's not that bad guy in the relationship.... either way, to me, it sounds like he's dating someone extremely bipolar. it's exhausting him and really, he doesn't know how much longer he can take it. |

after watching the breakfast club--whiich, if you're under, like thirty, i think might be the first place you heard this song--i fell in love with this song, i listen to it before going to sleep, and it reminds me of every relationship you have. wondering if after you move away the friends you do'nt keep in touch will remember you, and tons of others. this song is about that fear, that not everyone looks at old pictures and remembers the name, age, birthday, family members and secret fears and dreams of all of them. my mom and i have warped taste in music, when i happen upon a song we both like, i'm srprised, even though i know i shouldn't be. c'mon, though, i'm thirteen, my playlist consists of the beach boys, motley crue and garbage while my mom loves beyonce and chris brown. creepy. anywho, after this song was imbedded in my veins like it was born there, i tried to get into simple minds, but sorry, i hated love song, alive and kicking, and all the others i heard. not here to talk about that though. this song is about what i said in the first paragraph, being afraid of what will come, of seeing someone you know, that knows you, in years to come and not have them give you a scond look. and that, is scary. but i love song. easily their best, but then, i can't really say that, can i ? |

wanted to be the fiftieth reviewer. :) this song is abouta girl that the world was never really fair to, no one seems to care, he boyfriends cheat on her, her friends are never really there for here. she doesn't know how to reach out to people, and doesn't know how to get close to people. but she wants to know what love is, and she would do anything for that person to help her out of this whole she's in. i think a lotof people can relate to this song. i know i can. one of savage garden's best, but then again, i don't like any of their other songs. |

alight, so this guy knows his girl is lying to him "she's ecieving me", "weave and breathe your story lines". he's telling her not to waste her time telling himshe's not cheating, but he still wants her, 'cause he still sleeps with her. "forget my name whle you collect your claim". collect her claim 'cause she's kinda slutty, it's all sort of a game to her, and she just want the guys all for her, not really thinking about their feelings. but she defends herself becuase, really, its part of the game no to get caught. but he's on love with her, and cant do anything about it. listen to the lyrics. She's in pain. She puts this guy a a golden pedestal, and there's no way he can love her back. It's like he's too good for her; no, not even that. It's that she adores him, in a way that's just not healthy, and there's no possible chance to get that feeling back. Well, see, it's happy too. Like, the first verse. Life's all suckish because no one really has anyone for real, but when this person is with her she feels safe, even if she can't really be with him. "I can take you there", I think it means that even though this person is unattainable, if he weren't, she'd do everything for him; she just wants him to know that she'll be his everything. Just like he's everything to her. And then, one of the last parts, "Just like a prayer, you voice can take me there/ Just like a muse to me, you are a mystery/ Just like a dream/ You are not what you seem/ Just like a prayer, no choice you voice can take me there". Wll, that's sad too, but it's like... he's so incredable, he's not even real to her, you know? Like that level of perfection can only bee acheived in her dreams. That's why she says "muse"; it's like something that inspires you, something holy, like a god. And the last line, "No choice you voice can take me there". Even though he can't be with her, he takes her place she can't get to on her own, and she wants to do the same for him. And she can, but she can't 'cause they can't be together like that. |

i love this song. i didnt ever hear the original numb until a few days ago, and i loved it. because i had only ever heard it was jay-z, i never got the maening out of the song. so when i heard it, i almost cried, it was so beautiful. one thing i hate about rap though, is that its about living in the hood, sex, drugs, and whatnot, ever single time. GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and this one isnt. but it still destroys the song because it doesnt talk about what numb does. it talks about rapping. that killed it. i mean seriously massacred it. |

dude!!!!!!!1 youre comments, reading them now, are all true. but theyre soooo not what i thought the song were about. i always thought it was about a guy who was going nowhere in his life. ''what am i leaving when i'm done here?'' and in the beginning, in his dream, i thought it was him talking to his friend (girl. etc...)saying no one gave a crap about him being done. ''no one else cared'' so when he woke up, he wanted to get with it and make his life worth living, so that people will have a faeson to remember him later when he died. i dont know if that made sense to you guys, but that was how i say it. it never crossed my mind that it could be about some one (his friend girl, etc...) dying and him telling them to remember the good times. i know that seems totally heartless of me, but its just that when i think of something as a certain way, i cant think of it being another on my own; someone else has to say something for the general idea to come to mind. |
