U2 – A Man and a Woman Lyrics 15 years ago
"'True love never can be rent' It means that you can't get real love from a prostitute."

I'm sorry, but I find it funny that you could interpret this line that way. I assume you are talking about renting love like you would rent an apartment. That is incorrect. The word "rent" is the past participle of the word "rend" which means to split apart, or tear. "Rent" is the word to use in this case because it rhymes with "innocent" in the next line. It probably sounds better than any alternatives anyway. To clarify what this line says, let's replace the word "rent" with a synonym:

True love never can be torn (or split, or broken, or divided).

In other words, true love lasts. It has nothing to do with "renting love" from a prostitute.

U2 – Wake Up Dead Man Lyrics 15 years ago
Here is what Bono told Rolling Stone in response to being asked "You never saw rock & roll -- the so-called devil's music -- as incompatible with religion?":

The music that really turns me on is either running toward God or away from God. Both recognize the pivot, that God is at the center of the jaunt. So the blues, on one hand -- running away; gospel, the Mighty Clouds of Joy -- running towards. And later you came to analyze it and figure it out.

The blues are like the Psalms of David. Here was this character, living in a cave, whose outbursts were as much criticism as praise. There's David singing, "Oh, God -- where are you when I need you?/You call yourself God?" And you go, this is the blues.

Both deal with the relationship with God. That's really it. I've since realized that anger with God is very valid. We wrote a song about that on the Pop album -- people were confused by it -- "Wake Up Dead Man": "Jesus, help me/I'm alone in this world/And a fucked-up world it is, too/Tell me, tell me the story /The one about eternity/And the way it's all gonna be/Wake up, dead man."

U2 – Fez - Being Born Lyrics 15 years ago
This is a great song. To me, the accident in this song isn't literal. I think it's about becoming a new person through the pain and hard times that come through life.

Radiohead – Thinking About You Lyrics 15 years ago
The fact that it mentions "playing with myself" doesn't mean that is what the whole song is about. I don't see why everyone is so focused on that one line. Why don't we say this song is about kissing people's feet? or buying cigarettes?

Gin Blossoms – 29 Lyrics 15 years ago
To me this song is about growing up and learning from experience. It is pessimistic and sad but also optimistic and hopeful. I too first heard it as a teenager. I am now 30 and I can appreciate the feelings expressed in the song. "Twenty-nine you'd think I'd know better living like a kid" for instance. When I was a teenager I thought twenty-nine seemed old and mature, yet I still feel like a kid now that I have reached that age. Very good song.

Nine Inch Nails – That's What I Get Lyrics 15 years ago
The only way someone can hurt you is if you let them get close enough to. And when they do hurt you that's what you get for letting them. No song has ever rung as true to me as this one did when I heard it after being dumped.

I echo Mr.SelfDestruct101. Pretty Hate Machine = A woman.

Maná – El Desierto Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is pretty straight forward. I think anyone who has ever left their home and loved ones behind can relate to it.

MorningStar, I think anyone looking up Mana lyrics understands Spanish, so no translation is needed. I'd also recommend gaining a better command of the Spanish and/or English language if you're going to try translating.
