I was reading an article in Rolling Stone, and Alex says that he actually got the title from Joyce's book. "Something about the impromptu title inspired Kapranos to flesh out the song. 'Not the Joyce thing but the Greek story,' he says. Instead of losing his geographical bearings, as Ulysses does in Homer's text, the protagonist in Franz's version loses himself in a haze of weed." |

yeah, i think that the relationship is/was not necessarily a healthy one, but she's focusing on an illusion. all she can think about is the good times and she can't see herself being that happy with anyone else. she feels like she never got a real chance with the guy and she can't give up until she's sure. |

this is a great closer to the album. the way the intensity picks up as the song progresses is simply beautiful, especially the addition of kenny and hayley.
i think the song is talking about one of those on-again, off-again relationships. she's wanting another break but he realizes that he wants her, and wants their relationship to be something more. she's willing to give it a shot, but only if he can "make me believe you mean this" |
