The Knife – Heartbeats Lyrics 12 years ago
Great song, enjoyed reading some of the interpretations posted.

Not sure if it's correct, but Legolas' idea of a breakup after a 10-day passionate relationship, that kicked off when they were "both under influence," sounds appealing to me... the sad fatalist, that I am.

"Push and scream" could be them pushing and screaming at each other.
"and then release" could mean them "letting go" (... not just orgasm ;^)

I can understand the idea of it being "anti-religion," but it seems "anti-religion" is too strong a description.

"... hands of above to lean on" reminds of an old gospel lyric, "leaning on the everlasting arms," but all she's saying is that it wouldn't be enough; She needs hands from down here (a person) to lean on too.

So many views, only they know what they meant.

The "birth" idea is pretty cool too.

Death Cab for Cutie – I Will Follow You Into the Dark Lyrics 12 years ago
Committing suicide when your lover dies so as to be with her in the next stage, is a testament of a pretty deep love... (but not when it's externally imposed, as with Sati).

Metric – Gimme Sympathy Lyrics 13 years ago
To me, this song is partly a message from Metric in the present, to their younger selves--perhaps at a time where they almost gave up on their dream of being musicians--and it's partly the band reminiscing about when they started out playing music.

It describes the risks they took of being artists, but they embraced the risk, and worked hard.
They reminisce on how they were trying to figure out who they wanted to be as musicians.

The "don't go, stay with the all unknown"-part indicates that they might have been thinking of letting it all go (the hooks could be fishing hooks that pull them away, like the 9-to-5 life--or musical hooks or cliches), but they tell their younger selves that they're close to touching something intangible; "hang in there; there might be some mistakes along the way, but this life of an artist is -so- worth it, you'll see! You're close to something beyond definition!"

TV on the Radio – Hours Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is great, and I have no idea what it's about (-it could be about anything from the fallen angel Lucifer--who was banished from heaven for thinking himself beautiful, and he stole underground--, it could be about Narcissus from Greek mythology, it could be about a single person, or all humanity). Who knows?!?

I want to know what the band has to say about it!

or rather, the last time he sings it, in the final reprise.

Muse – Starlight Lyrics 14 years ago
Here's my 2 cents:

The songwriter is writing about the lure of being a rock star (hence "starlight"), which is taking him away from the people who really love him, to people who don't really care about him--but he's still going to pursue it anyways because the "starlight" is also a glimpse of a spiritual/universal truth he encountered in writing songs/music. It's a difficult path, the one he chose, but one that electrifies him and gives his life meaning.

He won't stop pursuing this because he knows he can ignite the souls of people longing to feel, who "would die just to feel alive."

The first time he sings "hold you in my arms," he's making reference to the life of a music-maker/performer, and the hopes and expectations he has of his life as an artist.

In the reprise, he draws attention to the second aspect of the the first verse; the ones who actually do care about him.
The second time he sings "hold you in my arms", he sings it to them. He won't let them go.
