| This song to me is about a crisis that makes a person reanalyze what they thought life was about. He thinks of himself as mature and right minded not wanting to take a smile from anyone's face, or rob people from their happiness. He had realistic expectations. He had thought life was about pain and truth were what shaped his life but he realized he had uneven development and he had to seek some of things he wanted. That the place he is in physically or spiritually doesn't suit him so he has to move away from the environment that took his hopes away, that doesn't fit anymore. He has to realize that even though he was met with a crisis, not to take it personally or think he was discarded by good fortune, that he just has to be revived by his desires. Big country is nature and intuition, to trust himself and remind himself of the things that enliven him be it nature or his desires or a lover's voice. It sounds like he's singing all this to someone else but it's projections, it's for him. | |

Using the songs own words it's about feeling down in the dumps and picking yourself up off the floor and having realistic expectations about life while not trying to take happiness away from people like a bratty kid would. |

These are my favorite lyrics of any song I have ever heard in my life except for one other song. But this song is simply about self-reflection and existential crisis. My favorite line is people turn around with unseeing eyes, they are looking for something that doesn't exist. I say this all the time, people are looking for something that doesn't exist like the perfect president or the perfect friend or the perfect country. Meanwhile the next possible steps within our reach we could be taking aren't be taken and the world we once knew is being eaten up by rust. No one studies history and learns from it so we repeat our mistakes all the while looking or trusting in god to save us. The only line I am not crazy about is: Bodies good for nothing, but it's to nothing they belong. People say prayers and some work hard. If you give them all your money, they'll give you their hearts. Maybe the guy is ascetic and doesn't believe in the importance of the body and it's needs I also don't know what he is referring to with giving people money and being given their hearts. Maybe buying friends? It certainly helps to have money, people will kiss your ass. Anyways, brilliant lyrics that have only gotten more trues. |

I think it's pretty clear this song is about a guy who is confused. His girlfriend is on vacation. He feels lonely, no ones around to talk to when he's in trouble. There's another girl, someone who is older and he probably had a crush on so he wants her to come over so they can talk over his feelings. They haven't been alone in a long time. He mentions the word love so that's laying it on pretty thick if it's a one night stand. I mean no need to go there and make it complicated with someone in his social circle if it's not true. I don't think they sleep together. I think they are friends and he would do anything for her. They were just going to hang out but then he makes a move and he's also thinking about the ramifications because his hands are shaking but he doesn't care, because he can't help the way the he's thinking. I think she turns him down and goes to leave and he asks her to close the door, literally and figuratively - meaning keep it undercover. Just because she's right, doesn't mean he's wrong. ---- She think she's just another shoulder to cry on and he's not in love with her. And in his mind, yes she's another shoulder to cry on beside Josie but he also does like her too. This is the only explanation that makes use of all the lyrics. |

Also it's the test of life when it's so difficult and you don't want to go on but you realize this is all school down here or a test. To be on your earth is to wrestle with darkness and when you do it you get help (angels) but you can transcend all this misery by experiencing God here on earth (even though your spirit's broken) A lot of Madonna's music has this, what I think is channeled, mystical connotations even though she certainly doesn't seem to manifest any wisdom in the way she conducts herself.
