The Creedence Clearwater Revival thing could be a reference to the book "A Long Way Down" by Nick Hornby. In the book one of the characters says he kills himself because he has a fatal disease called CCR, but really he just has problems and wants to kill himself. So if she read the book? I don't know. Just throwing it out there. |

God the chorus of this song is just like Saving Jane "Girl Next Door."
But the guy I like perfectly fits the description of this song. 'Cept his favorite color is black and he has no sister. But his brother is really hot. |

I agree with shanNOUN on that line. I also am hearing:
"We've only got a friend to lose" instead of "We've only got a plan to lose"
"either I can't stand them or they don't want me" instead of "Though I can't say I'm mad, they don't want me"
and "I still sing them though the meaning's new" instead of "I'll still thing them, though the meaning's you"
I love this song so much.

I think the first line is a Catcher in the Rye reference. Because when Holden is talking to Ackley after his fight with Stradlater, he asked him if you have to be Catholic to join a monastery, and he says how he wants to go and join a monastery. I don't know, I was just reading the book and thought of the song. |

Maybe I'm just stupid, but would someone please explain to me the line about Creedence Clearwater Revival? |

It's about her mother. Saw her in concert last night, and her mother was in the audience, and she said it was dedicated to her. Plus, it just makes a lot more sense for it to be about someone she's not in a relationship with. |

Okay, this has nothing to do with the song, because the album came out before a lot of this information, but part of this song makes me think of the US government.
"Oh yeah, you caught me, but I caught you one worse," is like the election process, where the candidates try to take the media's attention off of their mistakes and force it on the other.
"They say, "You want a war, you got a war." But you are you fighting for?" is that the war in Iraq is for the sake of having a war.
"We drown traitors in shallow water." is...well, waterboarding.
I know this is NOT the meaning of this song, it just randomly came to me. |
