The Police – Don't Stand So Close To Me Lyrics 14 years ago
Sting probably shagged a student back when he was a teacher. I read him in an interview say it was inspired by a real incident involving another teacher at his school which sounds SO much like someone saying "I've got this friend who..." when they really mean themselves!

I don't think this sort of thing happening is that out of the ordinary- it happened at my school!

Metallica – King Nothing Lyrics 14 years ago
Well I think this song is about AXL ROSE!
This opinion is mostly based on the line about the castle crumbling and being left with just a name- methinks a reference to Axl legally securing the rights to the name "Guns n roses" just as they were falling apart.

A tenuous interpretation I know, but the Load album did follow that huge tour Metallica did with GnR when Axl was sacking band members left, right and centre so the timing is historically sound!

What do y'alls think? It makes sense to me.

Megadeth – Holy Wars... The Punishment Due Lyrics 14 years ago
Seeing as the Northern Ireland explanation comes from Dave Mustaine himself in that interview I reckon it probably is what the song's about. Although I never really understood the Punishment due lyrics but then I'd never heard of "The Punisher" comic until now! I can see why people would jump to the middle east conclusion though cos the video for this song is full of desert war footage and the crusades is what pops into most people's heads when they hear the phrase "holy wars".

I think everyone's missing the point a bit though when they think this is an attempt by the author to write a song that broadly addresses the issues of the subject in question. I think it's much more about the specific experience of standing on stage in a foreign country and commenting about the situation there without really knowing what you're talking about and the ensuing shock/ embarrassment when you cause a riot, get banned, receive death threats etc.

Cos ultimately people write songs about the things that emotionally affect them the most, and I'm sure Mr. Mustaine was affected far more by becoming the focus of hatred for a bunch of suddenly pissed off para-militarists than he ever was by a war in the middle east that happened five hundred years ago!

Skee-Lo – I Wish Lyrics 16 years ago
I don't wish to appear stupid but what does he mean by "A rabbit in a hat with a bat"???? Is this a common slang term for something in America that we don't have in England? I'm struggling with the idea that along with the dream-job, foxy girlfriend, classic car etc he wishes that he had a rabbit in a hat with a bat. And like, does that mean the rabbit is in possession of a baseball/ cricket bat or that it has to share it's hat lodgings with a bat of the flying mammal variety? Coz just about every bat in the world is a protected species and it's illegal to handle them at all. He would be in so much shit if he got caught keeping one as a pet. Let alone making in co-habit with a rabbit in a fucking hat! Has he got some sort of sick fetish for inter-species combat in small spaces? With this particular scenario being his ultimate fantasy death-match?!
Surely this is not literal. What does it mean?!!!!

Hed PE – Crazy Legs Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is proper funny! I love the way he says "What?" like he can't understand why on earth you've taken issue with him fucking your wife in the mouth. I mean jeez, lighten up!
This is also the only rap that I'm aware of that makes reference to Billy Joel's (s)hit song "It's still rock n roll to me". In fact, this could be the only Billy Joel lyric appropriation contained within the entire hip hop genre. I think that once is probably enough eh?!

Death – Sacred Serenity Lyrics 16 years ago
It's not an obvious one this! Hmm, I thought it could be about the army. Coz that line "Observing spirits on the wall, what are they telling you?" Is talking about a war memorial. And like, the army protects and watches all etc.
But Predeadman's animal hypothesis fits much better. The "spirits on the wall" now meaning stuffed animal head trophies. What a beautifully evocative phrase it is, whatever it means. He had a way with words alright did our Chuck. I love this song!
