I tried my best with the lyrics, I wasn't sure about a few spots and they weren't posted anywhere online yet. any thoughts on the meaning? I think its about a religious girl who is depressed. Or religion plays some role in her sadness, explaining all the references such as jesus, mary, purgatory, etc...This song makes me so sad. |

I think its about how people try to control you and want you to be a certain way. and really, thats the easy way, you can be content just doing what people want. but if you really want to enjoy your life "you can't be too careful". you have to go get what you want. |

I think that the girl is being abused in some way by her current boyfriend, and turns to this guy for comfort, but keeps going back to the other guy because its what she knows, and she thinks the singer is going to end up just like him anyway. But the singer actually cares for her, but instead of explaining himself, he always just gets mesmorized by her (like when she takes her clothes off). |

lily is most definitely not god-bashing in this song. she is, however, bashing people who do terrible things in the name of religion. such as the 9/11 reference, and saying people have died in gods name before then (crusades, etc). and a lot of the song is sarcastic in a way, such as the caucasian part. and she criticizes society in most of this, and the stupid things we do. shes basically questioning her own religion and basically asking god who is right. its a rather good, insightful song. |

i do hope that the person who posted above me realizes that "downtown" and the entire play are a huge metaphor. downtown is a state of mind where you are just extremely low and everything is going. and uptown is basically where you have to go to escape downtown but it still sucks. |

i knew a guy like this song describes once. except it was sorta backwards, i was head over heels for him and he didnt even care about me. but the way she feels after hes gone is the same way i felt. and i agree with dustybreeze, i love her new sound but i miss stuff thats like her old stuff, and is more natural. good though. |

This song relates to me sooo much. 3 years ago, a guy made me fall head over heels for him. All my friends said he was a jerk, i didn't believe it. I made it clear how i felt to him, he just ignored the situation. Then, he betrayed me. Then he stopped speaking with me. Then, i begged him and pleaded with him to just talk to me, and he wouldnt. then, he dated one of my best friends for eight months. They just broke up, and he and i got into more fights. But now, he has started talking to me all of a sudden and i just ignore him, im finally over it. He can live with the pain, not me. He was incredibly cold to me in all that time. He was cold to my friend when they went out. I wish he could have been different, but he wasn't. We never even went out, but he hurt me so much. |

this song is my favorite song ever. i know its probably just about a failed relationship, but its so much more than that to me. When I was 11, my brother killed himself. He had always been very screwed up . A few days after he died, my mom and i were going through his stuff, and we found this tim mcgraw cd. on the back cover the name of please remember me was cirlced. i feel like he left it for me especially. i think he felt that he was never there enough for me and that he couldnt be here for me anymore but wanted me ato remember him

this song describes me and a guy i know absolutely perfectly. well, boy, i guess. i had known him since we were like 7. but then, in the 7th grade, i realized that i liked him and fell really hard for him. he strung me along until i fell in love with him. everytime we got close to being together, one of us did something horrible to the other and messed it all up. well, we are 15 now and he is dating my best friend, and he refuses to so much as speak to me or be in the same room as me. but yet, i still constantly send him messages begging him to just speak to me or forgive me, and they are all deleted as soon as he gets them according to my friend. i will probably always trail after him. i dont love him anymore, but i still feel a connection to him. and it kills me to see him. hence the "how long can a girl be tortured by you". i know that this song is probably about an actual relationship, but thats what it means to me, and what i think when i hear it. it makes me cry. beautiful song though. |

it was sooooo weird, i had a dream that was just like this song. then, the next day i heard this song and looked up the meaning and i was like, wow, creepy. this song is beautiful. i love it. the guy slept with the girl and then left her. he didnt actually want a relationship with the girl (jasey rae). this song is sort of an apology. its really sad actually, but so sweet. |
